more weirdness

As a followup to my earlier problem, I have found that the following works:
domain.org/index.php/home

This takes me to the "home" page. But if I go to domain.org, I get a "404" message.

This site is Joomla 2.5.1 with PHP 5.3.1 and MySQL 5.1.38.

I just remembered I did perform a Joomla update which may have made the site go deaf at domain.com.

Can anyone provide any insight as to how I can fix this?
