I tried to change a site to use "Search Engine Friendly URLs."

Mod_rewrite is enabled.

The "htaccess.txt" file has been renamed ".htaccess."

I selected the "yes" radial button for the following:
Search Engine Friendly URLs
Use Apache mod_rewrite
Add suffix to URLs

I now get "file not found" errors for all but the "home" page.

What did I miss?

Thanks in advance.

Mitch,

Are you sure you have mod_rewrite installed as a apache module?

Gary,

Yes, i double checked after recieving your note. It looks like I need to edit the .htaccess file.

Thanks for your input.

Gary,

Mod_rewrite was turned on and I did change the name to .htaccess, which due to the security in my system required me to use terminal to telnet in and then switch to SU to change the name.

As it turns out there was a bigger mystery.

The missing item turned out to be a security feature on my system that requires me to enable .htaccess to override the web server for the directory and sub-directories. This is done on a domain by domain basis.

Thanks to all who offered advice and to the gang at today's users' group meeting who gave great answers to many questions.
