Here is a summary of progress on the Joomla! Community Magazine. All questions, thoughts, or suggestions are welcome. Please take an extra close look at the 3. Major open items section below and weigh in if you have ideas on how to help us in those areas!
1. Design/Layout: K2 passed a thorough security audit performed by Andrew Eddie-thanks Andrew! Komrade has started work on the design. Fotis Evangelou has set up an open-ended ongoing group chat on Skype so that issues and questions pertaining to the design can be addressed and resolved hopefully more quickly than through group emails. All magazine editors, team leads, and design team members have either joined that group (or they will be invited to join once they send me their Skype IDs).
2. Content structure: Based on a
Content Structure discussion in the magazine forum, here is the current proposal for the content structure for the magazine. The category titles are not finalized, and it is expected that categories will change over time and depending on available contributors.
- Editor's introduction
- Leadership updates
- Feature articles
- Extension/Service Reviews
- Joomla! Events/JUG in Depth
- Website Case Study
- Designer's Studio
- Developer's Workbench
- Administrator's Toolkit
- Joomla! in the Press/Media
3. Major open items
- Develop a style guide: This will help authors submit well formatted articles and simplify editing tasks. The style guide will be developed as the overall layout/design progresses.
- Develop a workflow: We need to develop an effective workflow to capture author consent to a content license agreement when they submit articles, that will also allow editors to easily respond to authors regarding any issues or concerns or request for changes to their articles.
- Solicit articles from the community: As soon as the initial content structure has been finalized and our style guide/workflow is in place, we would like to publish a blog post requesting article submissions from the community.
- Develop a polling process for community input: the Extension/Service Reviews team would like to allow community members to vote on their preferred subjects for future subjects.
- Get more volunteers: The main current need is for more editors and authors.
Thanks,
paul
