Hello all JSOP participants. I am very pleased to announce that we
have arranged to have two webinars with Louis Landry specially for
JSOP students and mentors. The times of the webinars are Friday, 2
July at 14:00 GMT and Tuesday, 6 July at 02:00 GMT. See the links
below for the times in other time zones.

http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=7&day=2&year=2010&hour=9&min=0&sec=0&p1=178

http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=7&day=5&year=2010&hour=21&min=0&sec=0&p1=178

For those of you who don't know Louis, he is the architect of the
Joomla! framework and designed (and coded) many of the original
framework classes. No one knows more about Joomla! development than
Louis, and this is a great chance to get questions answered and
benefit from his years of experience.

The webinar will be done using Webex. To get on the webinar, just
navigate to joomla.webex.com and follow the instructions. Use the
password "Jsop_2010".

We hope by having two webinars at different times that it will be
possible for most people to attend at least one of them. We will also
record the webinars and post the recordings so you can view them at
your convenience.

The format of the webinars will be question and answer. If you have
specific topics you want Louis to address, please post them in this
thread so he can have some time to prepare. And, in any case, please
come with your questions.

Thanks. I hope to you all at the webinars. Mark

Hi,
Sorry for not replying earlier. This is a great idea! there are some
questions about Joomla! development that I would like answered.
Especially about development for Joomla! 1.6. I will post the topics
I'd like to see discussed later.
Thanks!

Dear Friends,

I also think this is quite useful.

I believe we can benefit more from it.

I am going to try to attend both Webinars, but I currently don't have any specific questions in mind.  I'm hoping that others will have good questions that I will also benefit from.  I also think I will come up with questions just from being there.

From your email today, it sounds like you are wondering how many people are interested, Mark.  Does Google Groups have a way to setup events and have people respond if they are planning on being there so we can have an idea of what to expect for the turnout?

So far, I'm not sold on the Google Groups solution.  I don't typically go to the page itself unless I'm told to (like with today's email).  Does it have a calendar for events?  That might make it more useful and get me to visit it more.

Thanks,
Will

Hi,
Sorry for not following up with this useful discussion. I really
have to thank you for getting this opportunity to us. I am a newbie
when it comes to joomla. Now only I am learning and developing small
components. I would like to have the webinar's in a downloadable
format so that I can download and view them, as I don't have such a
high speed internet connection.

Also, I kindly request you to tell him to present some overview of the
development so that being a start up developer, I can understand well.
In the mean time, if you can let me know the project topic, I will get
an overview and ask the needed doubts in my next reply.

Thanks and Regards,

Saravanan

Hey,
It is great that you are organizing this webinar. It will be a great learning experience for all new developers.
Like Saravanan said, it would be great if you could record this webinar and make it available for download. It will also be helpful to developers who join in the future.
Thanks & Regards,
Shashank.

Hi. Yes, the webinar will be recorded and posted on the web for either download or viewing via the web.

If people who cannot attend have specific suggestions for questions they would like Louis to discuss, please post them here. That way we can get them answered.

Thanks for the interest in the webinar. I hope to see many of you tomorrow.

It sounds like basic extension development might be a good way to start.  I know there are a lot of tutorials out there that cover this.  If Louis could create a simple extension from scratch that uses a few of the base Joomla! classes, that might be a good way to introduce developers to the Joomla! API.  Another good way may be to go through some of the core extensions that are packaged with Joomla! and walk through the execution path pointing out some of the commonly used Joomla! classes.
