to Joomla! Leadership Team

As most of you know by now I have given notice that I am terminating my contract with OSM in December.  I’ve had a wonderful career opportunity come my way that is entirely too good to pass up.  I will still be able to participate and contribute to Joomla regularly, and even have some dedicated Joomla time with the new job.  I have no intention of leaving leadership at this time, but if I am unable to give enough time to be helpful and effective I’ll obviously reconsider that.

The paid staff program has been a really interesting process for everyone involved I think.  We learned a lot about what worked and what didn’t, and I think will be in a much stronger position to get more things right if/when we go down that path again.  I feel strongly that it is a direction we should continue exploring in concert with educational outreach programs and sponsorships.  Having dedicated, focused, consistent time from trusted individuals is a great thing and every organization benefits from it.  Paid staff is a way to achieve that, and I think it is a great one.

Personally, it has been a really great experience for me.  I’ve gotten to really dedicate my time to keeping the Joomla project going in countless ways; helping to make sure that teams get what they need.  I’ve been able to help the PLT change development strategy and process; largely keeping the code base on track with its path and goals while changing these processes and experimenting with different things along the way.  There are a ton of little things I’ve been able to do from intense technical discussions to press interviews that I just couldn’t have without the dedicated time made possible with this program.  I’m grateful for being able to be a part of it just as I have felt honored to be able to participate in this project since day one.

I’m looking forward to a fantastic 2011 and into the future with Joomla!

Onwards!

Hey Louis,

Thanks for letting us know  and for sharing your thoughts about the experience. I think we've been really fortunate to have benefited from your time as a paid staff member and I have a lot of respect you and Andrew both for being brave enough to take that first step with the project and help us to learn what works and what doesn't.  I think it will be a valuable experience to reflect upon should a similar route be taken in the future.

For everything you've done for us and for Joomla, whether paid or the countless hours you've volunteered... Thank You.  I appreciate what you do so much and do not say it nearly enough :)

Finally congratulations on your new career opportunity, I'm very happy for you! ...and I'm happy for us too since we will still get to keep you around :D

hi Louis

Thank you for the years of service you've given to the Joomla community,
and your leadership in development.

I wish you all the success with your new career opportunity.

I'm glad to hear that you will have some dedicated Joomla time
available, as well as being available to remain serving in the
Production Leadership Team.

I'm looking forward to the implementation in 2011 of some of the
strategies and initiatives that you've been part of, like the shorter
release cycles, and the focus on the Joomla Framework.
