https://docs.joomla.org/Technical_requirements is incorrect because 3.4.8 does Not work on php 7.  Perhaps J3.x versions should be more specific
3.4.x
3.5.x
???

Read it again.

Maybe put on some glasses or increase the magnification

Yes it is placed in a garbled way at the bottom but it is not clear in the Table.  The information about the minimum for the different versions is at the bottom but there is nothing to say that Joomla 3.x versions  lower than version 3.5 will not run on php 7.  The table is misleading and should even have a 'max' php version column ... that way it would be clear that Joomla 3.x versions  lower than version 3.5 will not run on php 7

Look again - there is a reference (link) right next to the title

Having a link to another page does nothing to detract from the fact that the information is incomplete and misleading.  The page linked to https://www.joomla.org/about-joomla/technical-requirements.html also gives the impression that all 3.x Joomla versions will run on either php 3.5.6 or 7.0

That ref is next to "(magic quotes off)" not the minimum php version ... that infers the note is about magic quotes.  Even if the newbie reads the note it is ambiguous ... it can be read to mean that J3.5 will not run on lower than php 7.  Because the first sentence refers to the note says about the minimum requirements of J3.0 to J3.3, then the next sentence refers to J3.5

It is only because we know that J3.4.x wont work with php 7 that we (take by inference) that "Joomla! versions 3.5 and later are compatible with PHP 7" means "Only Joomla! versions 3.5 and later are compatible with PHP 7".  There is nothing in the table or wording to indicate (to the unknowing newbie) that versions of Joomla below 3.5 will not work with php 7.
