Yes! Functionality with all the screenshots I've been seeing, I love it guys!

Check the template for the front-end, go to template manager, and make the "Protostar" the default for the frontend..

Clearly a lot of effort has been put into this release.

 

From installation on it looks and feels up to date and responsive, I’m pleasantly surprised, huge progress.

 

Only my own extension looks like …., I guess I’ll have to dig into bootstrap this weekend.

I just installed 3.0 to see how it looked like. So far I'm impressed by
the installation process. Very clean, modern and easy! But I can't say I
am by the administrator interface. I know it's still Alpha, but I think
there's too much black and grey. I'm used to see green for published and
red for unpublished. Now it's only a black check box. It's the same for
the default icon in the template manager. Instead of a yellow star for
the default and a grey star for the others, it's a dark grey star for
the default and a light grey for the rest. At first I didn't know which
one was the default.

Also, I think there's too much tabs and too much vertical scrolling.
When I edit a user, in 2.5 all is on the same page with each section in
its own field set. In 3.0 there's a tab for each section and I need to
scroll down with a lot of wasted empty space on the right. That's not
helpful, that's just annoying.

And why get rid of the quick icons? Now it's a boring vertical menu with
no colour and all the center area is used by the popular articles and
recently added articles. I really don't care about these lists, I never
look at them!

Don't get me wrong, I love the bootstrap look and I know making a user
interface is not an easy task. But there's still room for improvement
and we must keep in mind it must be user friendly, not programmer or
designer friendly ! :)

I felt exactly the same. Some more "colors" and less vertical scrolling needed, and its perfect.

It looks really good and works great, except in Chrome!
Edit a user profile, on the "Assigned User Groups" tab it is
impossible to scroll down as the page immediately jump back to the
top!

Would also agree with the previous comments about lack of effective
space resulting in far too much scrolling and the lack of clear
indicators, for example default options, default templates. active
elements etc. It needs some clear traffic light colours adding, as in
previous versions, rather than using 2 shades of grey please.

I think we're still thinking about what the default modules should be on the dashboard ... and remember they are modules so you can unpublish them and replace them with whatever modules you find useful.  I would like to think about  changing the default most recent articles to your own most recent articles, but in general I usually make a custom html module for the cpanel space that gives information to my back end users.

Hi,
aren't you thinking too much on professionals or semi professionals? I guess most of the Joomla  users choose Joomla from a provider site. i.e. run and go after selecting a template from a  selection. From there other templates and extensions are choosen also from the JED. This means do not anticipate that "normal" users are able to override any views. Or Joomla is going professional.

I'm not sure if you were addressing me but unpublishing a module is a standard thing for a beginning Joomla webmaster to learn how to do.

You are right though, it's important to remember that from all the evidence that I at least have seen most Joomla webmasters are not going to make modifications to their administrator--they are really focused on the front end of their sites.

@ms will you please put your chrome issue in the tracker? Is anyone else having that?

Hi Elin,
I addressed all with my comment. I've read a lot about the need of flexibility for the backend template and I do not really agree. A strict best practice for components would be the best. i.e. leave the styling to the right half of your brain and the coding to the left half. If possible, do not mix it.. This can best be achieved through com_content and com_contacts without overrides. The tutorial Hello World is also important.

The same for front end but not that strict.

Means: leave the styling to the template as far as possible and ultimately skip the extension Css.

What does styling have to do with what modules are published?
