How can I disable, but show a grayed out button with JToolBarHelper?

Thanks!

It's not in the API but is much wished for. I'm not sure if anyone has taken up the task of writing it.

it's in the include folder, if there's a track task or requirements, i think we could provide such a method.

That would be awesome! I don't think there is an issue specifically for that but it could go right into the feature tracker. If you would like a branch to work on it, ask Mark or Ian. You could post there that this is something you are working on so people know where to look and how to help, if you want help.

I noticed that the toolbar buttons in the admin templates each have a
grayed out equivalent. It looks as though they could be used as
sprites through css. I'm not sure I'd trust myself to work on the
core, though. Can someone shed some light on why the grayed out
sprites are there, and if they're somehow used now?

Thanks!

Some work has already been done on this by Christophe.

Yes they are all there, but in addition to showing the grayed out image you also would want to disable the button. This also could be a very useful attribute so that optionally buttons that someone is not allowed to use could be disabled rather than hidden as they are now.
