Hi folks,
in this commit the options to disable code-cleanup is removed:
https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/commit/016619fdbed00a33b6c0e9617c278b7aa14c26f3#plugins/editors/tinymce/tinymce.xml

This is really bad, since it removes functionality that at least I've
been using extensively. I just noticed it now since I normally work
without an editor, but now my customer wants to edit the website by
himself and I really want to prevent him screwing up articles that have
some special content in it simply by opening it.

I've seen that the parameter cleanup_startup was removed in that tinymce
version and I have to admit that I didn't see a replacement for this in
a 5 minute search, but I can't believe that there is no replacement for
this somewhere. Please take a look and repair this for 2.5.

That option was indeed removed without a replacement with TinyMCE 3.4.

So, what should we do? I suppose the options are:

1. Keep the status quo.
2. Revert back to an earlier TinyMCE version.
3. Add the parameter to the latest TinyMCE version (don't know if this is easy or feasible).

Are there other options? Which one is best for 2.5?

Thanks. Mark

+1

Could be done but we'd loose a lot of things.

Possible but quite a bit of work. This would also mean we'd effectively fork TinyMCE which means more work with their updates.

Remove TinyMCE altogether, but that's not really on option either ;)

Do we know that TinyMCE deliberately mean to remove this option? Is it possible it was an oversight on their part? Would it make sense to file a bug report with them? Mark

This was completely intentional. You can read the announcement here: http://www.tinymce.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=25112 (last point)

I'd say accept it also. And if enough people want it/complain, hope a dev writes a plugin/editor button for it.

As far as I understand it, you are meant to use the event handle for
clean up to activate/deactivate this behavior. In any case: Without the
possibility to disable the clean up of the code, tinyMCE is useless for
me and I guess for a lot of other people, too.

Maybe contact JCE and ask what they will do. Will they keep it in? They are based on TinyMCE I believe.
