Hello there,

I have been looking for some kind of definitive guide in regards to
Joomla Developer Best Practices and could only find the following
which seems a bit dated and sparse...

http://docs.joomla.org/Core_Development_Best_Practices
http://docs.joomla.org/Development_Best_Practices

Does anyone know of a more recent and conclusive document explaining
best practice?

TIA

Adam

Hopefully this will help you out:

It's intended for the platform, but I believe the standards for CMS extensions would be the same? (someone correct me if that's not accurate).

I just bought the new Joomla! Programming book by Mark Dexter and Louis Landry.... both on this list.

Even after having developed a couple of different extensions I found this a really awesome guide and it covered off a lot of the best practice ways to approach things.

The only thing I couldn't understand was why I had to buy a DRM ebook?  It kind of went against the grain a little.  Happy to buy it, would buy it again, and regularly buy programming and software ebooks but DRM???  packtpub and pragmattic  press both do non DRM versions.

Hi Eric. Thanks for the plug and kind words. I don't know much about the DRM angle. That would be up to Pearson, the publisher. Anyway, thanks again and enjoy. Mark

I agree, I've had this book about a week and a half now, and it is by far and away the most informative Joomla Book I've found. But I also agrre with the DRM statement. The company I work for (a small press publisher) decided long ago to offer non-DRM options for those who want them, and I agree this book would probably be better without it. That's actually why I bought the print version over the e-book version.

Hi,

i have also bought the book. First let me say that it is an excellent
resource even for an experienced developer.

My book was sold without DRM - i bought it through Safari Books (this
way, i could read it long before the final release as so called "rough
cut"). Seems that there are different versions you can buy :)
