Some of Pauls thoughts on the "Project News" Team (Gathered from the
JCM Skype Chat)

The working title is "Project news" and the concept is to check in
with every team in the project each month, and ask if they

have any short announcements they would like us to publish, or if they
have a longer blog they want us to link to, or if they

want a JCM editor/author to follow up with them about a full JCM
article.

Then while we are following up with each team, we also want to ask if
they have any volunteer openings that we can assist

them with getting a post in the "help wanted" forum, and we can add a
link to it in the JCM "Help wanted" article that "Help

wanted" article may also get merged into "Project news", so we're
hoping that can be (1) a good central place for people to

see what's going on throughout the project, and (2) a helpful resource
to help connect teams with openings to prospective new

volunteers.

I think step 1 for the project news team is to start building a list
of every team in the project, along with a summary of

what their work is, and a contact name and email address, maybe a
Skype username too.

In a perfect world, each of those teams would be proactively
contacting the JCM Project News team, but I think from a

practical standpoint, some will and some you all will probably have to
follow up with them. If some teams don't really

embrace the concept, that's okay, I don't think the JCM Project News
team should feel stress about having some update from

every team in every JCM issue. But I think it would be good for every
team to at least get a monthly email or Skype ping from

the JCM, so they know that we are there to support their team and help
them with their volunteer needs.

Thanks for starting this thread Mark!

I would suggest grouping all teams under the working group/leadership team that they fall under. So here's Mark's list, but with some teams moved around, and I added some more teams. I listed who I think are the current team leaders. After the Project News team makes initial contact with these teams, the team leader may designate someone else on their team as the JCM Project News team contact.

I am sure I have missed some teams, so others please feel free to update this list, or please make changes if you know something listed below isn't correct. There are some internal project committees that I don't think need to be included on this list of those that the Project News team should follow up with each month (Community Oversight Committee, budget committee, audit committee).

Production Working Group (under the Production Leadership Team):
  1. Translation teams-JM Simonet?
  2. JSST (Joomla strikeforce security team-I'm not sure if that's the correct long name or not)-?
  3. Documentation Team-Chris Davenport
  4. Joomla Bug Squad-Mark Dexter
  5. Joomla CMS development-maybe the committers?
  6. Joomla Platform development-maybe the committers?
  7. Joomla User Experience team-Ron Severdia
  8. Joomla site showcase team (this might be under CLT?)-Ron Severdia

Community Working Group (under the Community Leadership Team):
  1. Joomla Extension Directory Team-Matt Lipscomb
  2. Joomla Resource Directory Team-Matt Lipscomb
  3. Joomla Template Directory-Isidro Baquero and/or Sandra Warren
  4. Joomla People site-Isidro Baquero and/or Sandra Warren
  5. Joomla Forum-Global Moderator team includes Peter Martin, Wendy Robinson, Brad Baker
  6. Joomla Community Magazine-Dianne, Alice, paul
  7. Joomla User Groups-?
  8. Social Media team (does this include the Twitter, Facebook, etc. teams, or should each be listed separately?)-?

Open Source Matters

  1. Capital team-Altansukh Tumenjargal
  2. Treasurer team-paul
  3. Events team-Robert Deutz
  4. Trademark team-Jacques Rentzke
  5. Shop team-Dianne
  6. Public Relations team (is this separate from the communications team?)-Ryan Ozimek
  7. Communications team-Sandy Ordonez

Hi all,

Since no one else has thought of any more project teams, I think the list Mark started and I added to is a good one for the Project News team to start with.

I have created a shared Google doc spreadsheet with these team names, team leaders, and team leader email addresses for those I know about. I think these are the next steps for the Project News team to be ready for the Phase 1 redesign that I hope will happen with the March 1 issue:

1. Create text for an introduction email about the JCM Project News team's purpose:
Highlight accomplishments in all areas of the project in a JCM Project News articl.
Ask for JCM article ideas about each team's work and volunteers
Ask for any Help Wanted forum listings for open volunteer roles
2. Ask for one or more team contact persons the JCM Project News team can follow up with each month regarding the above, including email addresses and Skype usernames.
3. Ask if there are any team updates for the March 1 JCM as listed in #1 above.

I believe that the JCM Project News team can really help strengthen our community and our project, by making it easier for people to learn about what is happening in all areas of the project, and by making it easier for new prospective volunteers to get connected to project teams that want more contributions.

We'll also send an email to the Joomla public leadership email list to let them know what we're planning. Alice will be leading the JCM Project News team.

Any questions?

Thanks,

paul

My suggestion for next steps would be for someone on the Project News team to create a spreadsheet with all the team names, a sentence or phrase that describes what they do, contact name(s), and email a/o Skype names.
