Video game localizer and publisher Sekai Project's Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the Narcissu 10th anniversary anthology project met and surpassed its US$75,000 goal on Monday. The campaign then ended on Thursday after raising US$97,550.
Sekai Project, in collaboration with Narcissu series' creator Stage-nana, will remake the visual novel series with new art, re-recorded voices, and an entirely new scenario. The anthology includes four games in the Narcissu series: Zero, A Little Iris, Himeko's Epilogue, and the brand new chapter Sumire.

Backer rewards for the campaign include digital and physical copies of the games, their soundtracks, and a visual fanbook. Other rewards include an original mini-novel, a collector's box, a Narcissu T-shirt, and a tapestry. Up to 24 donors who pledged at least US$1,000 will receive all previous rewards in addition to dinner with Stage-nana leader Tomo Kataoka at Anime Expo 2016 in Los Angeles. Donors who pledged at least US$1,800 will also receive a hand-drawn and colored shikishi (Japanese sign-board) drawn by Takehiko Akino, the main artist for Narcissu; Sumire.
Narcissu is a series of linear visual novels that explores themes relating to terminal illness and the relationship between the living and the dying. The games have more than one million downloads worldwide, and have inspired spinoffs such as a manga, light novels, and mobile apps. Fans have translated the games into numerous languages including English, Chinese, French, German, and Polish. Sekai Project also published the most recent versions of the games on Steam as the free Narcissu 1 + 2 game.
Stage-nana is a Japanese doujin-group that created the original Narcissu series in 2005. Tomo Kataoka, a veteran of the visual novel industry and primary scenario writer/director for NekoNeko-Software, leads the group. Stage-nana is providing the writing for the remake project.

He was rather bored by hisloneliness, but as soon as he had stated so much to himself, he wasshocked at the disloyalty to his ambition. After all, he reassuredhimself, he was not going back to a dull inn-parlour: to-night he wasgoing to sleep in an hermitage for the right to enjoy the seclusion ofwhich he had been compelled to fight very hard. If you ask my opinion of books, Mr. Hazlewood, Itell you that I think books is as bad for some people as wireworms isfor carnations. They seem to regular eat into them."
Guy laughed. Misgivings about the wisdom of his choice vanished, and hewas being conscious of a very intimate pleasure in thus driving back toWychford from the station. The country tossed for miles to right andleft in great stretches of pasturage, and when Mr. Godbold pulled up fora moment to look at a trace, the air brilliantly dusted with autumnalgold seemed to endow him with the richness of its silence: along thesparse hedgerow chicory flowers burned with the pale intense blue of theSeptember sky above, and Guy felt like them worshipful of the cloudlessscene. The road ran along the upland for half-a-mile before it dippedsuddenly down into the valley of the Greenrush from which the spire ofWychford church came delicately up into the air, like a coil of smokeascending from the opalescent corona that hung over the small townclustered against the farther hillside. Down in that valley close to thechurch was Plashers Mead; and Guy watched eagerly for the first sight ofhis long low house. Already the sparkle of the more distant curves ofthe Greenrush was visible; but Plashers Mead was still hidden by theslope of the bank. Presently this broke away to a ragged hedge, and thehouse displayed itself as much an integral part of the landscape as anoutcrop of stone.
