Resolution of the MWIA Board

"The Board of the Mount Washington Improvement Association, on behalf
of its membership, having considered all the information presented to
it, considers the proposed extension of the Jones Falls Trail through
Mt. Washington to be a desirable amenity that will improve the quality
of life in the community.
Notwithstanding the benefits of the proposed trail, the Association is
aware of the concerns of some members about possible adverse
consequences, and is dedicated to ensuring that the trail is designed
and constructed in a way that addresses the concerns of the community.
Therefore, it is now moved,
That the MWIA shall express its support to the City of Baltimore for
the proposed extension of the Jones Falls Trail along the route that
was described to the community at the April 17, 2007, meeting of the
MWIA, subject to the following conditions:
That the City will not change the route significantly without first
receiving community input and approval;
That the MWIA will monitor and provide input into the proposed trail,
and that the City will provide open and regular consultation with the
community throughout both the design and construction phases and will
periodically update the community on its progress at public meetings;
That the City will present to the committee its findings on design,
access, public safety, parking, environmental impact, engineering
feasibility and all other relevant studies as they are completed;
That the City will not construct the trail along the proposed route
unless it can establish that this route will not entail significant
disruption to the stream, plants or wildlife in the wooded area in and
around the Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital property;
That the City will commit sufficient resources to maintain the Mt.
Washington portion of the trail; and
That the City notifies the MWIA in writing that it agrees to all of
the above conditions.
It is further moved that the President shall appoint a committee to
represent the Association in the design and construction process and
that this committee shall report to the Board on a regular basis. "
