This case i am proposing is for sponsoring education of a girl named SUMA. S studying in 8th Std, whose father is a vegetable vendor (sells on his cycle) who has undergone bypass surgery and has been advised not to carry huge loads on his cycle.

Family details	Father: Siddppaji Mother: <dont know as of now> Sisters: Roopa and Vijayalakshmi
Occupation details	Siddapaji's income 250/- per day (approx 7500/- per month) Wife is working as maid and earns 1500/- per month TOTAL monthly income for family – 9000/-
Living in	Rented house in Maruthi Nagar. Rent is 4000/- per month Address: No. 154, Maruthi Nagar, Ittamadu, BSK III Stage, BLR-85
Children education	All 3 girls are studying in the same school. Valentine Model school Suma. S - 8th Std Roopa. S - 7th Std Vijayalakshmi. S - 6th Std
Ailments	Siddppaji was diagnosed with blockages in his heart and had to undergo bypass surgery. Now he is finding it tough to sell vegetables on his cycle which in turn is affecting his income.
Requirement	Any % of her school fees would help this child, who is doing good in her studies, to continue her education. 4000/- per quarter is being paid currently. i.e total fees is 16000/- per year (excludes books and uniform fees) We can sponsor for 2 or 3 quarters based on the funds available and others' opinion in the group.
Academic performance of the girl	Secured A+ in 7th Std (will share her report card soon)
Outside curriculum activities	<No details as of now>

• Makes it a very ideal case for JoinUs2Help
• Academic performance is good. Hence i suggest to pay for 3 quarters
• Can siddappaji sell on street? Any investment reqd? Ittamadu is a decent place where he can get lots of customers - what say? If our group can provide some help on this front, it would be great. For instance, we can lend an interest fee loan to him and recover amount monthly, etc!
• What is the last date for payment of fees? If possible borrow some time from principal so that we give our group members some time to provide comments.

We have funding for Suma from Sowmya's flute class volunteers to the tune of 8000. Kindly utilize the first tranch of 4000/- for this case as they requested.

Please issue a check for 4000/- in favor of Head Master, Valentine Model School

Mention Suma.S, VIII Std on the behind of check.

You may hand over the check to the school directly or the parent. They shall take a photocopy of the same and mention "received check" with school seal on it. Once the check amount is realized, they shall issue a receipt.

Attaching Suma's 10th STD report card n the girl has scored 76%.

She has opted for science in her 11th in a govt. College. Now she requires some help for her tuition fees which is 40k n her father has already paid 20k.

Second instalment of 20k is due in Nov. I would suggest that we could pay some portion n lessen the burden a bit. This is a case where we can make a difference n make sure the girl doesn't drop out due to financial issue.

thanks for the update. I am not sure why she opted for science because she has scored less than 60 pc in both science and maths. I was wondering if economics was better to opt for.

Anyway, going by our benchmarks, we have been sponsoring for upto 10k for schooling in several of our cases. For college, we could raise the bar to 15k. I would like to get more opinions from group members here.

Yes, even I noticed her low Marks but didn't want to demotivate the kid by saying you could have opted for some other stream; she scored pretty good in previous 2 years. 

Let's see how she fares in 1st p.u n then we can take a call on her next sponsorship amount.

Wondering why would somebody need tution for first year Pre University - is it important?

I do have a same question. How important is tuition for a first year PU student ?

1. Do we have any edurite or similar company CD or DVDs for first year PU students ? If yes , does student has means access to such content like a mobile/computer ? 

To and fro travel to tution, if any, is also not going to help. The way course becomes elaborated from 10th to 1st year is going to add difficulties as well.

Some of us feel its not necessary to spend hefty amounts for just "private tution" for first year.

Rajeev s suggestion to sponsor for some edurite membership is good and makes sense - We could think in those lines (May be you call me and we ll discuss)

Final call on payment - I am not in favor. I also dont like the idea that they get admitted and then ask money :)

In this case they never asked for money but when i checked with the person about the Admission he mentioned about it n reluctantly asked for help for her tutions, hence the mail to the group.

What would have been our stance if the girl got Admission in private college with 30 to 40k as fees but no tutions? Just like that case of Deepak

We have to consider the full case - we cannot do hypothesis. If the pvt college was good and the student was brilliant and if they had absolutely no source of funding and if they deterred to admit in good school just because of money then it makes full sense for us to sponsor - no?

The basic idea is that we pitch in when a poor student is unable to get access to quality education. In case of Deepak, i saw they were pretty adamant and fixated on a specific college for no reason - they kept us in dark until he got admitted. And they never attempted other colleges which were pretty good but few meters farther. Its more like "Ok he is resuming class from next, give us how much ever you can give".

For Suma s case, i tend to go with Guru's suggestion :)

I also suggest we can sponsor the same or little extra as Suma is in college now.

Am a mother of 6th standard child and have grown up kids in the family as well, so have noticed that these days syllabus are so vast that normal school or college coaching(which is not really up to the mark) is really not sufficient if there is no external support/help from a good qualified person(if the parents are not educated well in this case). And looking at the education to be provided for other children also in the family, and if we can re examine the parent's income now compared to last 2 yrs back when we started to sponsor.....based on all this probably we can think of how much of our contribution will help them.

Enclosing Suma's 1st PU results sheet.

She has scored pretty well. 

Now she is continuing the tuitions for 2nd PU as well and need our monetary help (any amount is fine).

Are we ok to sponsor from our end? If so, any suggestions for the amount to be sponsored? 

Last year we contributed 8k.

Should we increase it a bit this time considering she is doing good as per her results?

Suma has got a seat in Rajarajeshwari Institiute of Allied Health Sciences for B.sc in Optometry which is a 3 year UG Program.

Siddapaji, Suma's father, has arranged for 50K and raised a loan of 50K (from his neighbours) for first year and the amount is already paid.

For 2nd and 3rd year too, he is looking for similar arrangements. 

So, a total of 1.5L for 3 years is the deficit in this case. Let's assess and plan accordingly.

Hello Praveen,

Thanks for getting back with the information. As i see, the deficit is 50k every year. 

For this year, since the deficit is closed by borrowing loan and already paid to institute, we shall leave it at that. However we could set aside 20k for her.

For 2nd year, I propose we utilize 30k from our "pool" and club it with the 20k set aside now and bundle it as a 50k contribution from our side.

For 3rd year, I propose to utilize another 30k from the pool again.

Additionally, at any point in time, we shall ofcourse review her performance and take a call.

We also invite for personal contributions from our members towards this cause. Personal contributions can be made directly to the institute. Members can reach out directly to me and Praveen and we shall facilitate that.

There is extra university fee of 15K to be paid this year and I have covered it already (receipt attached). Since we had set aside 20K for 1st year, this fee amount is adjusted towards that.

Hi All,

An update about Suma's progress...

She has completed 1st year course and has done well; enclosed is her results sheet.

As we have been doing from past few years, we have to sponsor her fee (20K limit) for second year. Since it's a case we have been sponsoring from 6+ years, I feel we can go ahead and continue the payment for her second year too. Let us know if anyone has any objections by 10th June, post which we will send the fee directly to her college.
