Hello everyone,

Toybank has arranged a toy distribution drive for the needy and disabled children participating in a summer camp at Lakshmipura in Tavarakere, Magadi Road, Bangalore Rural. This event would need volunteers to distribute toys to the children, spending some quality time with them and organize some games, etc for them.

 

It would be great if some of group members could volunteer for this HALF-DAY EVENT.

IAR (International Agency for Rehabilitation) India conducts this summer camp every year and they call it - the Tavarakere summer camp project.

Details of the event:
Date and Time : Saturday, May 15, 2010, 10 AM - 2 PM
Venue : Children Summer Camp, Lakshmipura, Tavarakere, Magadi Road, Bangalore.
No of Children: 60

TRANSPORT WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM SINCE WE SHALL ALL GO AND COME BACK TOGEATHER

   * Keep going straight on Magadi Road till u reach Tavarakere Bus Stand
   * Ask for route to Lakshmipura
   * Once inside Lakshmipura, ask for site for summer camp.

IAR India has prepared a draft budget for the event (I have attached the same)

I spoke to Ratna, the office manager there and she said we can decide how we can help them in kind. Its our choice….

 

I am proposing that we can sponsor for either breakfast or lunch. However, the prices quoted in the estimate are as follows:-

 

1. Break Fast         74 X 4days X Rs18/-          5,328.00

 

2. Lunch              74  X4days X Rs.40/-        11,840.00

 

3. Dinner             74  X4days X Rs.40/-        11,840.00

 

4. Snacks             74  X4days X Rs.10/-         2,960.00

Do you guys (esp Bangaloreans) think we can arrange for a caterer for these people for lesser price? In case, you have contacts of any cooks, please pitch in your tech support.

Hello Group,

 

As planned, few of our group members visited this place on Sunday last week and spent time with the disabled children there. They pleased us with various shows such as dance, songs, mono-acting, etc. IAR, India who organized the camp has spread a word of thanks to our whole group for arranging a cook for 5 days in the camp to prepare nutritious food.

 

It would have been better if we had more active participation from the group members for the event - Only 3 members – myself, Rachana and Rajeev attended the event. I have assigned this case an ID of 28 and will be updated in case sheet.

 

I have already paid the cook 3000/- through cash (cook cannot accept check or demand draft J ). Hence, I shall be writing a check from JoinUs2Help account to my personal account for that amount and the same check no. shall be reflected in the case sheet and transaction database.

Like last year, JoinUs2Help this year too will participate in engaging disabled children for a summer camp along with volunteers from Toybank. I call upon volunteers from our group to please come forward and participate. Camp Details:

Date: May 14 2011, Saturday.
Time: 9.00 AM to 12.00 PM
Location: Lakshmipura, Tavarekere, Magadi Road, Bangalore Rural.

Additionally, i propose to allocate 10,000/- this year from our group fund to sponsor cook/sweets/fruits for the children in this event. Case Details:

Case Name	Sponsoring Cook, fruits/sweets for Summer Camp for Disabled Children
Case Referred by	IAR India, Panthrapalya, Nayandanahalli Post, Mysore Road, Bangalore
Family details	Children have one or more disability and belong to villages around Magadi and Tavarekere
Occupation details	Parents of these children are mostly from poor financial background.
Living in	Nearby villages to Tavarekere, Magadi Road.
Education	Each child attends various govt/private schools available nearest to their village. Most of the schools don’t conduct any activity for the children during summer holidays. IAR India has taken the initiative to fill the gap.
Ailments	Multiple
Requirement	The camp is conducted for ~4 days from May 10 - May 14, 2011 in Tavarekere. They are provided both accomodation and food by an ashram maintained by IAR India.
Proposal for Help	A cook is required to prepare nutritious food for ~4 days for the children, volunteers and NGO staff (Total 75 no. of pax) for camp duration. I propose that JoinUs2Help can sponsor for the cook similar to what we did last year for the same summer camp. Already did some research and found a cook by name Gopal Krishna Bhatt, who himself has a son with disability and hence offered to work for nominal cost. He works as a full time cook and regularly cooks during big occasions for Ram temple in vijaynagar. After negotiation, he is quoting 1200/- per day for main cook plus assistant cook. We can also sponsor some sweets, fruits, rice/dal to the extent of 4000/-

Given that this was conducted last year also, do we have any sports items or materials from last year? There's a cost of Rs. 4255.00 that can be reduced significantly if an inventory of such can be maintained. Atleast for subsequent events if not this time.

Another concern I had is the prize money. It just says 55 x Rs 300. for one, there are 50 students accounted for in the beginning. for another, I find a just a number Rs.300 without discussing the nature of prize doesn't look very credible to me.

Well, I understand that these aren't out concern as we're sponsoring only the food. But just thought I'll let you know my thoughts on this.

Hi Jon,

 

You are absolutely correct about the findings. Also, there are some more of that nature Ex 45/- per meal is a little too much i felt. I opine the same as you regarding prize money.

They can decide on their own menu but the amount we pay to the cook is a per-day basis fixed charge...so we can remain transperent from our side.

The sweets and fruits sponsorship i mentioned in the proposal is not listed in the budget. So, we dont have to worry. We buy the sweets ourselves and distribute them ourselves. I am thinking getting either kaayi obbattu or rava laddu from VV Puram. If some money is left with us, we can even buy rice ourselves and give it to the cook directly.

 

Since, no cash transaction is happening between us and the camp volunteers, i suppose we can ignore anamolies in their budget (it was meant only for reference)

Just to re-iterate, its a Summer Camp held for the rural disabled children conducted by IAR India. I have spoken to Toybank to team up with us this year too.

Camp Date - May 10 to May 14, 2014.

Budget for this year's camp:

12,000 - Sponsoring for cook and an assistant who would stay for 4 days with the kids in the camp to prepare nutritious food.

1,000 - Fruits and Sweets for ~ 70 children, parents, IAR India Staff and Volunteers.

Toys for the kids - shall be sponsored by ToyBank.

NOTE i mentioned parents in the list of people - Few disabled children require one of their parent or family member to be present with them throughout the camp since their disability may be such!

Additionally, I have referred Kids from Mungaravalli Village we identified as part of Case ID 060 to participate in this summer Camp.

@Rajeev, could you kindly check with Umesh (the cook) on his availability for the camp this year (date given above). I have checked with Ramu Bhat and he mentioned he could arrange cook and helper for 12000 but i want to see if we could get somebody for lesser amount.

Update regarding the cook. We have found a cook who has agreed to work for this event for 7500/-

This time, instead of sweets, we are thinking of sponsoring a healthy juice for the kids. Budget - 2500/- (considering Tropicana Apple Juice..ideas are welcome)

We may incur some more expenses for purchasing stationary required for drawing/painting. Sowmya/Kavitha shall get back on that.

The event went on very well with a healthy participation of volunteers (photos attached). Kavitha and myself represented JoinUs2Help. We also took along a teacher to do Rangoli and Mehandi. This year yet again the summer camp for disabled children shall be held in May 1st week. I want to invite you all to participate in this event which we are actively engaging since 7 years!

Date: May 6 2017 Saturday

Place: Tavarekere, near Magadi, outskirts of Bangalore

As usual i am in touch with Toybank to get some toys for the kids. I have spoken to a rangoli and mehandi artist who is willing to volunteer and engage the children.

My proposal is to continue the sponsorship of cook for the event (held over 5 days). The mehandi artist has also promised to arrange some paper craft. So i see that there are enough activities to fill the day for the children. Participation from volunteers will make it easier for conducting these and also more delightful for the kids - the more we are, always the better!

Hello Team,

This year the summer camp for disabled children shall be held earlier than previous years due to the upcoming elections. I want to invite you all to participate in this event which we are actively engaging since 8 years!

The event will be ongoing from March 28 - April 1st, 2018.

As usual we are looking at volunteer in distributing of toys, conducting activities to the children and spend some quality time in the summer camp on the following day:

Date: March 31, 2018 Saturday

Place: Tavarekere, near Magadi, outskirts of Bangalore

The proposal is to continue the sponsorship of cook for the event (held over 5 days). 

Requesting an active and more participation and suggestion from volunteers to conduct some new activities or to engage the children in something innovative and learning - Children there look forward and are always excited to receive something new from Joinus2help(based on my experience as I personally volunteer this event from last 6 yrs regularly)

I visited IAR office at Nayandhalli, Mysore road last week and have got their budget list for the camp.

We sometimes find contributors for cook outside Joinus2help funds and make the payment directly to the cook. This time also I have one of my friends Sushma contributing 12,000/- for the cook and rest of 3,000/- advance payment is already made from Joinus2help funds.

IAR has notified us that this time they are finding difficulty in meeting their expenses for camp as few regular donors are unable to contribute. Their main concern is towards the payments of provision for food supplies.

Below are the expenses they incur:

From the above they are able to manage towards sports items, photography, transport  and prizes to the kids(which is again not decided if they would omit or keep this).

They are omitting the distribution of T-shirts this year.

So the other 2 left is towards drawing items and catering.

I have 2 volunteers named Sowmya and Shruthi who is agreed to volunteer to teach  painting/drawing, craft and rangoli without charging their fee but would need contribution towards the materials which is approximately within 7000/-.

I also spoke to caterer and the provisions for 5 days for 100 people may incur expenses approximately around 35,000/- to 45,000/-.

IAR 's proposal is requesting help in some part of these from our group, rest they would again need to find a contributor based on our commitment.

Group, I did not see anyone replying regarding this camp which Joinus2help actively participates from many years now. Yes, without all of your monetary contribution this wouldn't have been possible for so many years.Besides, contributions towards Joinus2help funds is also not regular but we need more suggestions and opinions coming in with this regards and see what best we can do this year.

I am glad to tell you all that the event went very well. We did not have much volunteers to conduct many games for the kids but we arranged Mehendi, Rangoli and Pottery making activities for the day and organised 2 games - all the activities were enjoyed a lot by the children.

Like every year, JoinUs2Help this year too will participate in engaging disabled children for a summer camp. I call upon volunteers from our group to please come forward and participate. Camp Details:

Date: April 27 & 28 -Saturday & Sunday.
Time: 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM

Location: Lakshmipura, Tavarekere, Magadi Road, Bangalore Rural.

Additionally, we propose to allocate some amount this year too from our group fund to sponsor cook, cleaning assistants,Rangoli and Mehendi artists, Magician to entertain children, Materials for painting activity, a token gift for every child and juice and sweets for the children in this event. Family details	Children have one or more disability and belong to villages around Magadi and Tavarekere
Occupation details	Parents of these children are mostly from poor financial background.
Living in	Nearby villages to Tavarekere, Magadi Road.
Education	Each child attends various govt/private schools available nearest to their village. Most of the schools don’t conduct any activity for the children during summer holidays. IAR India has taken the initiative to fill the gap.
Ailments	Multiple

Requirement	The camp is conducted for 5 days from April 25 - April 29, 2019 in Tavarekere. They are provided both accomodation and food by an ashram maintained by IAR India.
Proposal for Help	A cook is required to prepare nutritious food for ~4 days for the children, volunteers and NGO staff (Total 115 no. of pax) for camp duration. I propose that JoinUs2Help can sponsor for the cook and other activities related(mentioned above) similar to what we did every year for the same summer camp. Already did some research and found a cook by name Naveen who also was the cook for last year camp, After negotiation, he is quoting 4500/- per day for main cook plus assistant cook and Cleaning assistant with 1000/- per day(This may get reduced as the negotiation is still in process) = 18000+5000 = 23000/- We have 15000/- already being committed by my friend Sushma towards this.
Notes	Volunteers from JoinUs2Help can visit the camp and engage the children in participating in activities on Sat&/ Sun April 27 &/28, 2019.

When we visit the camp, we can also find disabled children who can be suitable candidates for us to think on next steps for help.

IAR is organizing winter camp for the first time looking at the interest of children from past years and the details are attached in this email received from IAR.

This time it is for 30 children only for 3 days on 17,18 and 19th October 2019.

And am planning to visit on 19th October to volunteer for half a day as its last day and  post lunch children will get busy on wrapping up from the camp.

If you are interested in conducting any activity or sponsoring for the event in anyway, please do let us know.

As the time we are left is hardly 15 days, would be great if you can acknowledge before tomorrow evening.

The summer camp is back again after a long covid lockdown break. 

This time it's happening from May 18 to May 22. As usual we would participate on any day that overlaps a weekend. This time being the 21st of May Saturday

It's been a norm that every year we sponsor for a cook to supply nutritious food to the children. This time the cook expenses has been covered by sponsorship outside of JoinUs2Help. So instead I propose we sponsor for some grocery to the extent of ~30k. Our average sponsorship has been between 20 to 25k every year but it's time to bump up a little bit as 2022 prices are much higher.

As you can see the budget comes to around 50k for grocery. With a combination of our pool fund of 30k marked for this and some private contributions, grocery expenses can be covered.

It is with extreme regret that I pass on the news that Dr. Anand, head of the organization IAR India with whom we were collaborating for the summer camp for more than a decade passed away 2 weeks ago.

IAR India is arranging a small ceremony to mark homage for Dr. Anand. On this occasion, close to 180 children are invited - who were beneficiaries in some form and on whose life, Dr. Anand had an impact.

The idea is to arrange for a simple lunch for these children.
