So Lorna and I have been having a discussion about the place for a calendar on the site. My personal view is that there should be one, somewhere (like /event/calendar) that would show a typical calendar view with events listed on it and in a list below it. I see this as an easier way to find events by date or for event planners to look at a glance and see where they might put their events so they don't interfere.

We looked at the statistics for the current site usage, though, and the current calendar pages weren't used very much at all. So, I wanted to ask all of you for your opinion. Should we:

1. Drop the calendar functionality all together and just use the Hot, Upcoming, etc lists
2. Have the one calendar view (instead of the sidebar calendar)

Thoughts?

1, but make sure the "Upcoming list" also includes events that are going
on at the moment you're viewing.

The upcoming list now includes any event starting later than three
days ago, which should get current events - this is in response to the
bug Derick logged about this issue. To make current events easier to
find, the "events" tab on the site now defaults to "hot" events, which
includes current, recent and soon events at the top of its list.

(the reason we don't just include current events are the rubbish ones
that run for years and screw up the data set!)

The calendar and ical feed are buggy, and need to be removed. Respond
to this thread if you have ideas on what should replace them please -
recreating the existing functionality (without bugs) is fine, but we
need to know what people think would be effective. Personally I
dislike the calendar (this might be because I didn't even notice it
until I did some profiling on the homepage!) and use the "hot",
"upcoming" and "past" lists to find everything.

Your input please!

Lorna
