us Tuesday, December 7th for our monthly educational meeting. This
month we are discussing HIV/AIDS and the multitude of issues that come
with it. Hear from a panel of community leaders that will host a
discussion on the history and future of AIDS activism in the queer
community, as well as current updates on the medical science, and the
resources available in Chicago. December is World AIDS Awareness Month--
get educated, get active!
Queer Noise 3: Save Howard Brown! Join
The Impact Chicago will be hosting its third Queer Noise open mic event
at New Wave Coffee in beautiful Logan Square. It's this Friday, December 10th, at 8 PM, and the address is 2557 N Milwaukee in Chicago. Come showcase your
talent-filled performance at a locally owned and super queer friendly
coffee shop. Pre-sign up is available on our website at http://jointheimpactchicago.com/QueerNoiseIII.
This
time we are using this event as an opportunity to raise some much
needed funds for the Howard Brown Health Center, which is enduring
severe financial difficulty. Howard Brown has been very transparent
about their struggles, and you can get more information on why we are
fundraising for them at their website: http://www.howardbrown.org/hb_news.asp?id=1534
There
is no cover, but we will be passing a bucket for donations. If
there's any spare cash to be shared, hundreds of people dependent on
Howard Brown's services will live easier because of it.
Come let loose down the street from Queer Noise III at the SAVE HOWARD BROWN after party!
The
party will feature a cash bar with our sexy bartender Ra-Chill and DJ
"Yo Ant Jemima" (a.k.a. some of our most dedicated JTIC activists).
Feel like busting a move? Sign up for our first ever dance off and
spread your dancing love.
For
years, activists, legislators and organizations have been fighting to
pass civil union legislation in Illinois, which grants many state-level
rights to same-sex couples. Civil unions will provide certain practical
benefits for those who choose to enter into them, or who have been
married or united in other jurisdictions.
We
are happy for those who find joy in this news and congratulate those
who worked hard to make this happen. We also feel the sting of second
class citizenship -- civil unions are inherently unequal, an institution
invented just to avoid acknowledging the equal dignity and worth of
same-sex relationships by using the word “marriage” for all.
JTIC will not settle for compromises or half-measures, and will not rest until we are recognized as fully equal.
