PRIDE edition ☆ Join the Impact Chicago NewsletterGreetings
all! Join the Impact Chicago (JTIC) has had a very busy spring
keeping up the struggle for full LGBTQ equality. We launched a
coalition to host the conference
Unite+Fight: Strategizing for LGBTQ
Equality, which drew 300 grassroots activists from all over the Midwest. We also organized several events for the Harvey Milk Week of Action, including a sit-in at Illinois Senator Dick Durbin's office to
demand decisive action to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act
(ENDA).
Take Back Pride!During the month of June, recently dubbed
LGBT Pride Month by President Obama, we will be doing our part to bring
the Pride Parade back to its roots: the struggle for equality. There
is a lot to enjoy about the carnival-esque spectacle that Pride has
become. But in the tradition of the 1970 Pride Parade commemorating the
Stonewall rebellion, this year JTIC's Activist Contingent will be marching in the
parade to raise a demand for an end to second-class
citizenship, and to encourage the wider community to take an active part
in the struggle. We hope you will join us! Spread the word!

--------------------------Join the Impact Chicago is a politically independent organization of
Chicago-based grassroots activists fighting for full equality for
lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people in all
matters governed by civil law in all 50 states. Through education,
community organizing, and direct action, JTIC is working to eliminate
federal, state, and local laws that codify discrimination on the basis
of gender expression and sexuality. We will not settle for compromises
or half-measures, and will not rest until we are recognized as fully
equal.
