Hi Angelo,
Congrats, glad to hear that you are selected for the interview. f
I were Alchemist, I would at least interview you too, being an
enterprise software focused accelerator.
1) Pls email me any info they have given you, ie what are they
looking for, whats the format of the interview, who will interview
you, for how long, where etc
2) Pls send me any info, ex ppt, on your pitch beforehand, if you
have any
3) You probably don't have enough time, but I recommend you to try
to connect with any of the Alchemist first batch of startup
founders and get their advice:
- SendTask,
a next generation enterprise task management platform.
- Social
Pandas, a social selling platform to help salespeople
close deals.
- Xockets, a
software-defined intfrastructure platform for heterogeneous
computing cofounded by a former Cisco engineer.
- JyMob, a
platform to choose the best people for your jobs.
- Selligy, a
mobile service helping salespeople with their primary
activity, sales meetings [Editor's note: Selligy
was a finalist at VentureBeat's Mobile Innovation
competition.]
- Active
Scaler, a storage-load balancer for network driver
enterprise storage.
- ConnectBright,
an advocacy empowerment platform for B2B service providers.
- Cambrian
Genomics, a DNA laser printer.
- MobileSpan,
a BYOD platform for enterprises.
4) I pinged Mark
Trang and Gretchen of SocialPandas via LinkedIn. I know of Mark
Trang when I was still with Oxygen Cloud, don't know him
personally, but I have always thought that his background was
awesome for product management etc. I reached out to these two
people becuz they are part of Alchemist first batch, they are
doing enterprise related sales people platform, and they are
both well over 30 years old. Am hoping they will respond and
give advice on the Alchemist interview.
5) I edited and summarized whats important in terms of what
they are looking for, answer these:
Technical co-founders-
The most important element is the team. In the team, we
first look at the techincal founder(s). The technical
founder must be distinctive. While we don't have any
strict criteria, we find that the most distinctive technical
founders exhibit these common traits:
a. very strong technical chops
b. tenacity
c. ability to explain complicated things clearly
d. judgment in making good tradeoffs
e. good product sense
f. passion for outcomes, not process.
Business co-founder-
We prefer teams of 2 or 3. We will admit purely technical
teams, but the ideal team has one or two technical
co-founders, and one business-side co-founder.
We find that the best business side co-founders exhibit the
dual traits of
a. being able to sell a vision convincigly to customers / VCs
/ employees
b. the ability to tactically know the 3 next things that need
to get done to drive the busines forward.
c. If the company will be involved in direct sales to the
enterprise, we look for strong sales-centric business leaders.
If the company is focused on online sales, business
co-founders with a keen sense of customer acquisition,
conversion, retention, and design are valued.
d. Prior experience in the
enterprise is not required. Though if you have prior
experience that provides an unfair advantage to your new
venture, that is a good thing.
We will be looking for founding teams that great talent will
want to join.
We also place
importance -- though secondary to the team -- on the market.
Our focus is on markets that are large enough to warrant the
interest of the top venture funds. We will admit stellar teams
who do not have a clear market focus yet.
Our program is not designed for entrepreneurs looking to be
acquired in 18 months. Our program is designed for
entrepreneurs that are motivated by "something deeper to
change the world on a large scale"
