Hello everyone, my name is Omar and I just bought a Johnson and am excited to join the group.  A couple weekends ago I picked up #186 from Joe and brought it down to Clear Lake (southeast side of Houston).  I'm planning to use it for our local Wednesday night races but also hope to make a couple events on the Texas Centerboard Circuit.

I'm not new to sailing, I've raced many different boats from Lasers to J24s to catamarans (my last boat was a Hobie 18), but I am very new to this boat.  I look forward to sharing stories on here as well as gathering as much info as y'all have to share.  Hoping to get it out for a first sail on Friday.

Welcome! You'll find the J18 well behaved and lots of fun...even for your somewhat undersized crew!   The neutral helm (it's basically dead) will be the biggest shock to you I think....#196 once made it out to the Severn River here in Annapolis! I'll try to find some photos....I think it was 186...

Thanks for the info, and the cool photos!  Yup, that's our boat.  Still have the 'ghosts' of those registration numbers.  Photos must have been from a couple owners ago.  Very awesome to see the boat in action, thanks!

Congrats on the new boat!  I think you'll really like it.

I think those photos were taken of Bill Willmon, who lived near Philadelphia.  He bought the boat while living in New Orleans (before the hurricane), but he'd relocated to the east coast by the time we met him in Annapolis.  I'm not sure when the boat made it's way back south.
