Hi all,

I started JODConverter back in 2003 (originally at SourceForge), and have maintained it ever since.

I am today announcing that I am abandoning the project, leaving it officially unmaintained.

This shouldn't come as a suprise. As many of you have noticed, development has stalled in recent times. As I explained a few times before on this group, I no longer have time - nor frankly interest - in maintaining the project.

I was hoping to find a new maintainer, but that hasn't happened. Some people did contribute to the project, and that's been greatly appreciated, but none offered to take over maintainance duties. At least one company opted to fork it instead - which they're perfectly entitled to.

So as my last act I moved the code to Github, encouraging even more people to fork it, and hopefully over time one of these forks will prove reliable and well-maintained, becoming de facto "the" new JODConverter.

This discussion group will continue to exist, and in fact I encourage you to use it to discuss forks.

This project has been a great learning experience for me, and I'd like to thank all the people and companies that have been using JODConverter, with a special mention for the ones that also contributed back.

Best regards

Mirko

I also want to say thanks for all the work you put into it. It has been a very useful library.  I hope your other projects go well.

Hi Mirko.

Thanks. I myself have had no time to maintain the project. Been very
busy IRL, and I have changed employer, thus I am no longer using
JODConverter in a project.
Which I had the time to maintain it, but who knows.

Hi Mirko,

would it be possible to license JODConverter under the Apache License, now as Apache OpenOffice 3.4 is released under the APL?

I would like to continue maintenance or eventually fork the project but it would make sense if it is possible to continue under the Apache License.

We are using JODConverter at the Apache Foundation for "Apache OpenMeetings" for several years now.

Hi Sebastian,

I have nothing against dual licensing it under LGPL or Apache License. Just need to understand what to do in practice, e.g. do I need to change all file headers...

Cheers

Updated the code at Github to allow either LGPL or Apache licensing

Thank you Mirko for developing this! It's awesome! Also is anyone here able to assist me in an install? I may be willing pay if it's needed. See my other post https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/jodconverter/isLZC1qHbe4

GUOVNA!
I have been investigating for some time a way to use OpenOffice templates to produce reports and convert them to PDF for automated e-mailing.... JODR and JODConverter seemed Ideal! ... partly because UNO seems rather complex at development time....

I hope I have time to investigate this again and I also hope it will be sufficiently useful to my needs that maybe I would be able to change the file headers and submit it to Apache..... seems to me the need for a simple markup solution is a no-brainer!

Thanks for your work!
