I've tried to answer all the wonderful messages I've received. If I missed yours please accept my sincere apology.
To everyone, thank you very very much for all the kind thoughts and words. It was very difficult to come to the decision to move back north. When I got back down to Joco it became even more difficult. I'd told only a few people down here of my decision, so it was a huge surprised when so many Mexicans came to the house with their condolences and many to explain why it was a bad decision to move back north. <funny>
BTW, Rancho Osborn, the rental property I've had for almost 8 years, has many interested in renting once I leave it. The property is located on Miguel Arana, just east of the signal light near La Bodega Aurrera.
Property Description:
2 good sized bedrooms w/ 2 typically small bathrooms, tiny kitchen (in my opinion), very large entry room that I've used as a comedor (dining room) and TV room, a recently upgraded to gringo standards sala (living room) w/ exposed beams, grounded AC sockets every 8 ft., 3 lighting circuits for the ceiling (you provide the lights/lamps). Small covered patio in front/huge covered patio out back. The entire room, both concrete and clay tiles have been replaced/repaired and well maintained in the last 7-8 years. The largest part of the roof, over the sala, was completely rebuilt in 2014.
If you like the out of doors, that's where this place shines. A HUGE lot, big enough to keep horses, but you're still just a 5 min walk from La Bodega Aurrera, a dozen restaurants, as well as other shops, automotive, etc.
A one bedroom/kitchenette/bath/sitting room Casta which is 90% completed. Just some minor plumbing, patch some cement and it's ready for use. Interior ceilings and wiring were redone 2013, by a gringo general contractor.
A large storage shed with two lockable entrances, one for garden equipment & the other for all that crap there's never enough room for (why do you think I built it?).
Short comings of this house (aren't there always some?):
Street noise, but that's just if you keep the front door open
There's a Evento Sitio next door, but they get very little business. When they do you might not get to sleep until midnight or even 3AM. Still, it's only a couple of times a year.
The house does not have a water cistern. This can be a problem when the water company needs to turn off the pump for maintenance or when the pump breaks down. Most of the time the tinaco will keep you going 3-7 days. I installed a temporary cistern using a 1200 liter tinaco with a small pump and a sensor that transferred water to the roof tinaco when it sensed the street water had failed. I've left all the plumbing (front yard/SW side of house) in place to reinstall this system.
The owner of the place lives in the Oxnard area, but has local representation. You can write to them at: luz@oxnardharvest.com Do not ask me what it rents for. I started renting this place 7+ years ago and I'd imagine costs have gone up. Mexicans think it's expensive, gringos think it's cheap. lol I think it was quite reasonable.
Again, thank you for all the kind thoughts. I may not be here physically, but I'll be here via the Internet and I hope to be able to visit every year. As I'll be living in Texas, the visits will likely be during the summer. lol
