I was going to just write a little "Happy Easter" note, but decided to double check the spelling of Easter in Spanish, e.g. PASCUA (pass-kwa).  When I ran Happy Easter through Google Translate it came back with "Feliz Pascua."  Okay, that sounds correct to my English language brain!  But...

I decided to check the WordReference.com English/Spanish Forum and WOW did I get a surprise.  Turns out it all depends a lot on where you live as to what is said.  In some Spanish speaking areas they don't even use a greeting such as "Happy Easter."

Just so you don't think I've made this up:

Feliz Pascua
Felizes Pascuas
Feliz dia de la Santa Semana Santa or just Feliz dia Semana Santa.
Feliz Dia De La Conejita or Feliz Coneja - Happy Bunny Day or Happy Rabbit Day - No big surprise that this comes for the  frontera/Border areas of Mexico & the U.S.

Locally?  During the week it's been "Feliz Semana Santa," but according to several neighbors, today we say "Felizes Pascuas!"

A question for Georgia and other high-level Spanish speakers; Why is Pascuas in the plural?  To the feeble English brain it looks like Happy Easters.

A funny aside;  In Spain they appear to often mix up Christmas with Easter.  Saying "Feliz Navidad" on Easter and "Feliz Pascua" on Christmas.  Go figure??

  Hello Mike:

My family friends and people I know, never really wishe other people happy easter,  because we don’t celebrate that week, other than not having school.

And certainly we will never ever say Feliz Santa, since for us is time for grievieng, for reviving the Passion and the Death, of jessu Christ.  So if anybody in mexico relly says “ Feliz Semana Santa” its really weird.   But again like you said im only talking about people I know and from the Guadalajara Area.

But we appreciate when you say Happy easter,  so thanks

 Oscar

Oscar,
As usual you have provided another perspective on how we see Mexican culture.  Thank you very much!

Here is my view of why Anglos say "Happy Easter."  This is from my "former life" as an Evangelical Christian (a Protestant sect) several years ago and has nothing to do with promoting one religion over another.

Easter is a time of celebration for most Protestants because without Jesus' death there could have been no Resurection and therefore no "life everlasting."
