on one of the local webboards, there was a post recently about how to obtain and/or find out what your CURP number is.

when i was filling out my No Inmigrante [old FM3] renewal paperwork on line a few days ago, one of the things it asked for was my CURP number.....and i didn't know what it was.

two years ago when i did my renewal [using a facilitator] in Guad, my plastic FM3 card had my CURP number on it.  apparently assigned by INM, because i had not otherwise applied for such a number.  not having a cell phone, didn't need one.

last year, when my facilitator renewed my FM3 in Chapala, the CURP# line on my plastic card was blank.  who knows why.

but Rolly Brook, on his website, has posted a method of figuring out what your CURP number is and then giving a link to a Mexican government website where you can call up your CURP card and then save to print it out.  the only "guessing" you have to do about figuring out your CURP number is the last two digits.  those are used as identifiers in case others have the same other information as you.

if you are interested, here's Rolly Brook's link:  http://rollybrook.com/curp.htm

The CURP is fascinating in its simplicity.  I like puzzles and database conventions, so when I saw the # I could tell exactly where they took most of the info.  I even conjectured about the last two numbers.  Just couldn't figure the "X" in my name and now I know.

Funny thing about that indespensible CURP #.  I just renewed my Inmagrante and when I reviewed my new card... No CURP!?  I hated to bring the discrepancy to the INM, but I'd hate it worse if later some other bureaucrat got all snitty about it being missing.  So I took the card to the nice lady at the INM Chapala office and asked about.  "It's not important," was her complete answer.  Go figure?

as you and/or lots of other people have said, the only important things here are the things that the person across the desk from you wants!
