I am looking for a 2nd, possibly a 3rd opinion.
Nite before last or actually 2AM, I had an angina attack. Pain so bad that I didn't want to have to take another breath With the aid of my live-in housekeeper I went to the Hospital, got stabilized, and in the morning the on-call cardiologist showed up. He did a quick (really quick) EKG and installed electrodes for a 24 Holter Heart Monitor. Today I had an appointment where the Dr took off the Holter and then did a handheld sonogram of the heart.
We then waited in his office for about 5-10 minutes where he informed me that he had reviewed the 24 Holter. He prescribed me a whole bunch of medicine, but was too busy to explain what each of them was for, nor did he ask about other drugs I was taking for which there might be interactions.
For his coming to the hospital yesterday for about 20 min, the Holter, sonogram, and consult he charged $7800MXP. His per office visit charge is $600MXP, a $100MXP more than I pay for one of the top Board Certified (US) Pain Specialist in all of Mexico.
So I'm looking for the name/phone number for the other Cardiologist in Joco. He treated Michael Goodwin while the Goodwin's were living in their RV in my backyard.
I'm also interested in finding a good ENT to see if my angina might have been something other than clogged arteries, etc. How good their English is, not important. More concerned with the quality and communication skills.
One concern I have is when they send someone over to fix a problem and the only tool they have in their bag is a hammer, then all problems obviously require a hammer. The same for a saw, drill, etc. You see, Cheryl had an identical problem to mine about 5 or 6 years ago and it turned out to be a bacterial infection of the esophagus. The municipal hospital put her in a bed, stuck an IV in her, then a shot of "something" and within 30 min. no more pain and within an hour she walked out. I still remember the total charge was $150MXP! The doctor who saw Cheryl had a saw instead of a hammer. <grin>
Gracias for your help!
Mike

I would like to add something here. Last winter we had some guests staying in their trailer in our backyard. The husband had a mild heart attack (he has a long history of heart problems). At 3AM I took him and his wife to Dr. Nuñez. After explaining what was going on to the night nurse she called Nuñez who in turn called Dr. Moya. Moya was there is 15 min. They got the husband stabilized and I believe he spent the rest of the "morning" there. Dr. Moya continued to see the patient twice a day (at the house of course), did extensive tests including EKG's, Holter Monitoring, and more. I had worked around hospitals, especially in ICU/CCU and worked directly with heart specialists for nearly 10 years and Moya in my book is someone I'd put in charge of my care.
We are very lucky to have people of the caliber of Moya and Nuñez in my opinion.
