I had this problem too, and I figured out how to fix it. Hit the Ctrl key and comma key simultaneously and you will bring up the Preferences menu. Click Playback on the top, and under Play Audio Using (about 2/3 of the way down) change it to Direct Sound. Exit iTunes and restart and it will play all audio through the HDMI.
I have Windows 10. I added an additional monitor to my laptop via an HDMI cable. Everything produced sound, except iTunes. I fixed the problem by going to the "edit" drop down button, clicked the preference button, went to the "playback" tab, went 2/3 of the way down to "play audio using:," I selected "Direct Sound." Immediately after, I was prompted to restart iTunes. ITunes has been sounding great ever since.
Thanks very much for the answer/solution above. It absolutely worked for me, and solved the same problem I had -- getting no sound out from ITunes on my Win 10 laptop to an HDTV connected via HDMI cable, even though all other sources outputed their audio just fine.
On my own, I had tried changing the sound output settings in the ITunes preferences under Playback. But that didn't change anything, because I didn't think to exit and restart ITunes after making the change to "Direct Sound." With your guidance, I did the ITunes restart, and bingo, the Itunes audio output now playing through the HDMI connection to my HDTV.
One other issue: When I connected a new Win 10 laptop to my TV via HDMI, I got a volume control setting in my taskbar for my Realtek audio output. But when I switched my TV to the HDMI input channel for my laptop, I got a second choice in my laptop's volume control icon with the name of my TV.
In order to get the ITunes audio output to play to my TV via the HDMI connection, I also had to change the setting in my volume control icon to the TV name setting and away from the Realtek speakers/soundcard output. If I leave the volume control setting set to the Realtek output, I still get no sound to the TV via the HDMI connection.
And, when I switch the TV's input selection away from the laptop's HDMI feed, the corresponding volume choice for the TV disappears from my laptop's volume control icon in the taskbar. But when I reselect the laptop's HDMI feed on my TV, the corresponding volume control choice re-appears in my laptop's sound control icon.
I have a question and was wondering if someone could help. I have iTunes on my PC laptop and whenever I get a new song to download, the song(s) goes straight to both my laptop and my phone. I listen to a lot of music. Right now I have 800+ and some of these songs I don't want on my iPhone. How would I delete songs from my phone so it wouldn't delete the library from my laptop?
When you next connect your phone to iTunes, look on the Device/Settings/Summary pane (indicated above) and turn on the Sync only ticked songs and videos. Once you have that turned on, simply untick any song in your library (at any time) and it will be removed from the phone (at the next Sync), but stay in the Library. To add the song back to the phone, simply tick the song and then connect the phone up for a Sync.
You can delete songs from your iphone and it will not effect your iTunes library. However, next time you sync your iTunes with your iPhone, the songs will go back onto your iphone unless you remove them from your iTunes library.
You're fine. I was just confused on what I am doing wrong: I deleted one song from my iphone (delete from Library) and then it deleted the same song on my Windows laptop Itunes Library. Is there a way so when I delete a song(s) from my Iphone but still show up on my Laptop? Is there a way I can stop syncing music so that when I download a song on my laptop it doesn't go straight to my phone? Sorry for making this difficult. I really do appreciate your kindness in helping me.
Hi. Im trying to download iTunes onto a Acer laptop running windows 8.1. It has all the required credentials processor 2.41ghz 4GB DDR3 L memory and 500 GB HDD. Absolutely nothing happens when I press the download button from the apple/iTunes website.
I try to copy the .ipa and drag it but it just doesn't appear? When I copy the file, click on the edit button in the menu bar, all the options are greyed out even though I had copied the .ipa? Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
This no longer works in iOS15 and the latest itunes. Although it will copy your app over, on your iphone it starts installing then says "must be installed from app store." If the app is no longer there in the store, it will not install and the app will be useless (Showing with the cloud download button, which won't work).
I installed an iOS app (.ipa file) on my iPad using iTunes for PC (with Windows 10 21H2).The iPad's UDID is listed in Apple Developer Console list of devices. So it is a Developer test ipa for a test device.I've connected the iPad to the PC after iTunes was started and was able to install the ipa by dragging it to iTunes and dropping it on the left lower "On my Device" pane.I started iTunes after the iPad was connected to the PC and was able to install the ipa by dragging it to iTunes and dropping it on the left lower "Devices" pane.

Neither drag-and-drop or right-click paste worked for me.But Ctrl-V worked. Copy the .ipa file (normal Ctrl+C) from File Explorer, go to iTunes on the device's page, Paste with Ctrl+V and the app start to install.
Hello. I have a third-generation iPad with iOS 9.3.5, and I tried the method of copying and pasting the Atari Greatest Hits app to be able to use it with the accessory that was sold, however, the app appears on the home screen, but it is "installed" up to an average of 1/4 of the download, or even 1/2, but it goes up to that point and soon after the app stops installing and soon after disappears from the home screen. Does anyone know what the reason for the conflict might be? I really need this app.
For some reason Itunes is not switching my computer speakers with my headphones when the headphone jack is inserted. Headphone are working and work as they should when listening to songs on youtube. Itunes is playing on my computer speakers but doesn't shift to headphones. Computer sound software see the headphone being inserted and removed, as the headphones show up in sound settings, and again work fine with youtube.
Hello Tammy, I took your suggestion and updated or uninstalled and reinstalled itunes after ensuring windows was up to date. The problem is still going on but I do have some more info which may help with getting to the solution to the problem. I noticed if I have my head phone plugged into the jack when i launch tunes the headphone work, but when I remove the jack the computer speakers do not come on. It seems that Itunes isn't recognizing when the headphones / speakers are being switched. I'm going to try another uninstall and reinstall of Itunes tomorrow. I will update the status. The youtube music video's are working correctly with the headphone jack switching between computer speakers and headphones. Thank you for suggestions and comments, have a nice weekend. Joe
We understand that while using iTunes on your PC, it isn't recognizing you have headphones connected. Be sure both Windows and iTunes are fully updated, then test the issue again. We see you recently came from that resource, but here's the link again, just in case: Update to the latest version of iTunes
My itunes is on an old computer. So old that I can't update it and so Haven't used it in two years. How can I move it to my new laptop and make sure this doesn't happen again? Very frustrated that I've spend $$ but can't get my music.
I want so set up itunes on my laptop and make sure that I get all of my old music and any music shared from my sons' itunes accounts. Do I have to set up itunes on my new laptop first and then use the same logins? Really concerned about losing any music, etc.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
I have my Windows 7 PC paired with a bluetooth speaker. In my Window's settings it literally says that my computer can use the bluetooth speaker to play audio from the computer, so I want to know how I can play music from iTunes using the bluetooth speaker.
