Senior Digital Coordinator

Purpose:
This
position is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director for
Digital Strategy with overseeing the development and coordination of
SEIU’s digital presence and growth including strategy and planning.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Purpose: Performs a wide range of duties as assigned by the International Union, including but not limited to the following:
- Leading
the coordination, planning and development of content and strategy for
SEIU’s digital properties with particular focus and planning aimed at
growing the reach and quality of SEIU’s digital platforms including
email, SMS, social media and other digital properties. Advises on when
promotional investments or allied partnerships can help serve growth
goals for SEIU’s digital platforms.
- Serves as a lead creative
force for the Communications Department for developing digital content,
priorities, opportunities, and strategies.
- Acts as a nexus
between the broader communications team and other departments,
divisions, campaigns, and organizations on developing digital content to
support SEIU’s communications priorities and the mission of the
communications department to: build the voice of the International Union
President and Officers, amplify the union’s issues and members’
stories, support SEIU’s bargaining, organizing, and political
activities, and improve the visibility of the union and the broader
movement for working families and communities.
- Develops methods
and metrics for measuring the growth and effectiveness of SEIU digital
strategies and platforms and runs periodic tests to inform best
practices and improved audience targeting and digital communications
strategies.
- Researches and evaluates various technologies to
assist organizers, communicators, and other SEIU staff and leaders on
the most effective use of technology for communications purposes.
- Guides
the teams’ work with writers, designers, video producers, and senior
communications, local union, and international union staff to plan,
produce, and post digital copy, graphics, animations, videos, and other
materials for digital projects.
- Advises and assists in the
training of International Union staff in the creation of digital
strategy for tools such as websites, email, social media, SMS, CMSs and
CRMs to support campaigns, organizing, bargaining, and political
activities.
- Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission.
Contacts:
Include
SEIU and affiliate staff and council officials and representatives,
consultants, vendors, outside organizations, writers and other experts
on technology and communications issues.
Direction and Decision Making:
This
position reports to the Assistant Director of Digital Strategy of the
Communications department and the incumbent works independently.
Education and Experience
Graduation
from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in
labor relations, communications, political science, or liberal arts, and
five to seven (5-7) years of work in media relations, public affairs,
campaign communications, use of Web sites and email and other Internet
communications tools for advocacy.
Or, a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Thorough
experience leading a team’s digital messaging and strategy, including
experience leading list-building efforts on various platforms.
- Thorough knowledge of website development, architecture, search engine optimization and overall best practices.
- Thorough experience with the Internet and technology for communication, education, and especially advocacy.
- Thorough experience coordinating and building strategy across departments of a large organization.
- Deep
understanding and working knowledge of working of and interaction of
traditional media and communications especially related to the growth of
digital media and emerging tools.
- Knowledge of the use of metrics and statistical testing to achieve measurable results.
- Knowledge of the use of new technology for community advocacy.
- Knowledge of building online audiences and communities.
- Knowledge of unions, the labor movement, and their mission and objectives.
- Knowledge of union organizing, political, and advocacy campaigns.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Excellent writing and editing skills required.
- Ability to effectively use Internet communications tools.
- Ability to make effective presentations.
- Ability
to manage multiple “priority” projects and effectively coordinate and
lead respective staff to meet established deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively with elected leaders and senior staff in complex and sometimes political situations.
- Ability to continually develop skills related to use of rapidly changing technology, and communications best practices.
- Ability to write and proofread Spanish desired.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs and Google Drive programs.
- Familiarity
with HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Content Management System theme development,
CRMs, graphic design software, and other web development tools and
applications desired.
Physical Requirements:
Work is generally performed in an office setting. Long and extended hours and travel may be required.
Probationary Period:
Thirty six (36) calendar weeks.
