Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund are hiring a campaign organizer
to help develop and implement the organization’s environmental
initiatives in Baltimore and statewide. We seek an energetic and
experienced organizer who will work within a leadership team to
spearhead our environmental campaigns. Clean Water Action is a national
citizens’ organization with 1 million members, including 165,000 in the
Chesapeake region, working for clean, safe, affordable water, prevention
of health threatening pollution, creation of environmentally safe jobs
and businesses, and empowerment of people to make democracy work. Clean
Water Fund provides research, education, and organizing assistance to
strengthen grassroots environmental efforts, promoting the public
interest on issues related to water, waste and natural resources. Clean
Water Action and Clean Water Fund work together on selected campaigns
and programs.
The Maryland Program Organizer will:
- Conduct grassroots outreach and build relationships in Baltimore City neighborhoods
- Develop new relationships and grassroots contacts as needed in communities statewide
- Integrate on-line organizing and mobilization efforts into Baltimore and state campaigns
- Design and implement priority issue campaigns in Baltimore City and statewide
- Draft outreach materials and membership email blasts, coordinate outreach and mobilization of Clean Water Action members
- Coordinate campaign implementation including building and supporting diverse coalitions to win on our issues
- Organize phone banks, petition drives, volunteer nights, and earned media events
- Make public presentations, present testimony, and meet with public officials
- Help coordinate election related activities in Baltimore and elsewhere as directed
- When appropriate, staff Baltimore and other issues at the Maryland General Assembly
- Assist on statewide campaign activities as directed
- Provide briefings, materials, and support to Clean Water’s field and phone canvasses
- Help fundraise to support campaign activities
- Carry out other activities as directed
Qualifications:
- One to three years of successful professional field and on-line
organizing experience, including experience leading an environmental,
social justice or election campaign
- Strong oral and written communication skills; experience preparing and delivering public presentations
- Ability to articulate campaign messages to the media and public officials
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with diverse groups
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and problem-solve in fast paced, dynamic work environment; well organized and self motivated
- Research and strong critical thinking skills; computer skills; social media skills; experience with voter files
- Willing to take feedback and direction
- Must be willing and able to travel within Maryland, available for evenings and weekends as needed
- Knowledge of field and phone canvasses helpful
- Knowledge of Baltimore issues and leaders preferred; other Maryland organizing and policy experience considered
- Spanish language skills a plus
