Internship: Social Media Intern, NextGen America, San Francisco

SUMMARY
NextGen America is currently seeking a part-time social media intern to work in our San Francisco office until summer 2018, with the possibility of an extension to full-time until late 2018. The intern will assist with brainstorming and managing content on NextGen America's social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The intern will also help with tasks such as community management of social media properties and compiling weekly reports on audience growth and other metrics. The applicant need not have prior professional social media experience but should bring writing and multimedia skills, creative thinking ability, and experience working on progressive political causes. College seniors or recent graduates with political campaign or activist experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
HOW YOU WILL BENEFIT
- Paid: an intern will receive a stipend to support living expenses
- Location: an intern will work out of the NGA headquarters in San Francisco's Financial District
- Training and Development: an intern will work with leaders with years of experience in the climate movement and national and state politics
- Education: an intern can attend special lectures from various experts on climate issues, sustainability, and progressive political topics
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with core day-to-day activities of the social media team
- Assist with monitoring news stories and the social media feeds of NGA and our partner organizations
- Brainstorm and draft content for social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter & Instagram
- Assist with community management of NGA social media platforms
- Compile weekly reports on NGA social media activity to be sent to senior staff
- Perform administrative support and duties as needed
WHAT WE REQUIRE
- Current seniors at accredited universities and colleges or recent college graduates
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Drive applications
- Passion for taking political action to fight climate change, transition our country to clean energy, and stand up for progressive values and causes
- Strong desire to obtain new skills and exposure to working in a professional environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines
- Creative and flexible
- Excellent team player
COMPENSATION
Interns are independent contractors to NextGen America and NextGen America offers a stipend which is commensurate with the number of hours committed to the fellowship program. Interns are required to commit to 40 per week starting with the summer 2018 internship.
