Associate Director of Center for Policy Advocacy

Position Summary:
NRDC is seeking an Associate Director to join the Center for Policy Advocacy team in our Washington, DC office to help direct our federal advocacy campaign activities. This position will report to the Center’s Deputy Director.
Responsibilities:
· Work with Government Affairs, Programs and Communications to design and implement campaign strategies and tactics aimed at organizing public opinion and lobbying Congress and the Administration to protect bedrock environmental laws and the EPA’s Clean Power Plan to curb carbon pollution from legislative threats and advance NRDC’s policy priorities at the federal level.
· Manage the day-to-day operations of the federal defense campaign.
· Work under the direction of the Deputy Director to provide high level staffing support to the regional campaign teams that are working to protect and advance the Clean Power Plan.
· Set up good processes to build consensus around strategies and to organize inclusive but efficient operations.
· Develop and maintain relations with key environmental allies and coalition partners and strengthen coordination.
· Coordinate between the c3 and c4 to enhance NRDC’s federal and state lobbying activities.
· Develop and manage special projects as they arise.
· Assist the Deputy Director in the day-to-day operations of the department.
Qualifications:
· A minimum of 10 years of proven track record in issue and electoral politics is required, with at least 5 years of that spent on leading campaigns or coalitions. Please do not apply if you do not meet this qualification.
· Exceptional verbal and written communication and social skills are expected of this position.
· Demonstrated record of developing and managing budgets and processes are essential.
· Although not required, some experience working for large institutions is desirable.
· Although not required, experience working for, or closely with, major national environmental groups is desirable.
· The ideal candidate possesses diversity of political experience working for issue and electoral campaigns, party committees, advocacy organizations and associations, and/or Hill, Administration or statewide offices.
