Position Objective:  Catholics for Choice is seeking a full time assistant to support our busy communications department. This is an opportunity to be part of a successful and fast-paced nonprofit with a close-knit staff of passionate individuals who share a commitment to reproductive choice and true religious liberty. As a member of the communications staff, the successful candidate will assist the Communications Director and team on a wide range of tasks to keep CFC’s edge as the authoritative source on Catholicism and reproductive rights. This individual will support the team on financing and logistics, public relations and the publishing, distributing and stocking of the flagship Conscience magazine and other publications in print and on the web.

 

Major Responsibilities:

§  Provide administrative support to the Communications Director and team, including but not limited to helping to manage the director’s calendar, assisting the director with departmental budgeting and finances (filing reconciliations and reimbursements, processing invoices, etc.) and drafting staff and board updates and meeting notes.

§  Monitor and flag major news outlets to keep CFC staff informed on news coverage and social media conversations of developments in reproductive health and Catholicism, and assist with research, media outreach and social media as needed.

§  Work with the Director and editor to ensure Conscience subscriber lists are up to date and help publish and distribute the magazine and other publications, electronically and by mail.

§  Keep the department’s contacts up to date, including managing the department’s content in customer relationship management (CRM) systems and help with mass communications, including but not limited to press releases, in collaboration with the team.

§  Ensure that CFC’s website content is accurate and up-to-date and liaise with web design vendor for any needed maintenance.

§  Coordinate logistical and financial arrangements with design and print vendors. Maintain publications inventory, including processing publication orders, ensuring that publications are in stock and stored appropriately and providing materials for staff to market at events.

§  Maintain the departmental archive of media coverage and records of media-related activities, including letters to the editor, press releases, op-eds and submissions to media outlets.

§  Other duties as assigned, including some administration support for other departments.

§  The work is generally sedentary and does not pose undue physical demands. Must be able to occasionally push, pull, lift and/or carry moderately heavy items (less than 20 pounds).

 

 

Position Requirements:

·         Bachelor's degree plus one to two years of administrative experience

·         Excellent organizational and time-management skills

·         A high degree of computer literacy—including familiarity with WordPress, word processing, database management and social media

·         Interest in communications and advocacy; campaign and/or communications experience a plus

·         The ability to produce under pressure and on deadline; and an affinity for a fast-paced, product-oriented work environment.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Catholicism and reproductive health issues preferred.
  • Commitment to reproductive rights and the mission of CFC.
