Dear Friends,

I wanted to take this opportunity to share an important milestone in my life.  After more than 20 years of being involved with South Asian Network (SAN), I will be leaving this phenomenal space at the end of November 2010.

It gives me great pride and honor to have been a part of building SAN – from imaging a collective space to the thriving organization that we all hold very dear now.  This transformative experience both personally and collectively would not have been possible without the principled and selfless contributions of so many people.

My support for SAN’s mission, vision and people remains committed.  I wish the best to the staff, board, volunteers and of course the communities that SAN has continued to partner with and serve over 20 years.

Please see a message from our board and staff below.  Please visit http://www.southasiannetwork.org/Employment_ED.htm or see the attached job description and forward to those you know.  We are actively seeking candidates for this position.

Best Regards,

Hamid

South Asian Network Executive Director Hamid Khan

Announces Departure

South Asian Network (SAN) Executive Director Hamid Khan announced that he will be leaving the organization in the fall of 2010 after twenty years of exemplary leadership. The Board and Staff expressed its strong appreciation for Khan’s exemplary vision and longtime commitment to SAN.

“Though we will sorely miss Hamid, he leaves an organization that is strong, stable, and deeply connected to the South Asian communities of Los Angeles and Orange counties,” said Sumun Pendakur, Board Secretary of the South Asian Network. “All of us at SAN know that Hamid will continue to utilize his leadership and talents in exciting ways to serve the community.  And we look forward to this new chapter for the South Asian Network.”

Prakash Ghimire, SAN staff member of 5 years, agreed: “Hamid has been instrumental to SAN and the community – we are sad to see him leave but are committed to build upon his legacy.”

The South Asian Network is a community-based organization dedicated to advancing the health, empowerment and solidarity of persons of South Asian origin in Southern California. Khan was a founding member of SAN in 1990, when a group of South Asian colleagues came together to explore the idea of creating an organization that would address a broad array of social, economic and political issues affecting persons of South Asian origin in Southern California.

Under Khan’s leadership, SAN has greatly increased services to South Asian community members; initiated dynamic new programs in areas such as health, immigration, and civil rights; and significantly expanded the organization’s staff and budget.

The SAN Board of Directors has initiated a transition team to conduct a nationwide search for a new Executive Director.  For additional information, please visit http://southasiannetwork.org/Employment_ED.htm. The board is now accepting applications for the Executive Director position through July 1, 2010.
