JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:

COUNSEL, FAIR ELECTIONS LEGAL NETWORK 


The Fair Elections Legal Network (FELN) is a national, nonpartisan election reform and advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. Our overall mission is to remove barriers to registration and voting for traditionally underrepresented constituencies and improve election administration using administrative and legislative advocacy, research, and litigation.

 

FELN is seeking an attorney with a background in civil rights or elections specifically to help implement the organization’s programmatic objectives and manage a growing election law and policy portfolio. 

 

Qualifications.  Policy and advocacy experience, as well as some knowledge of election administration and voting rights, is required. Litigation experience is a plus. Familiarity with grassroots organizations and campaign or organizing experience are strongly preferred. Applicants should have at least 2 years of post-J.D. experience and a good sense of humor.       

 

Duties and Responsibilities. Primary responsibilities include:

1.      Working with partner election reform, registration, and mobilization groups to advance laws, rules and administrative practices that expand voter participation and combat restrictive measures;

2.      Engaging in ongoing outreach to state and local election officials to discuss reform initiatives and identify opportunities to collaborate;

3.      Working as part of FELN’s legal team to formulate appropriate responses to and/or develop legal theories for voting rights litigation;

4.      Collaborating on researching and drafting policy reports and legal briefs in pending cases; and

5.      Drafting blog posts and op-eds to communicate to broader audiences the impact of various election reforms.

6.      Additional responsibilities may include speaking engagements, attendance at staff and partner meetings, and assisting with review of fundraising documents.

 

State Bar membership required (must be member of or able to waive into DC Bar).
