Chief of Staff

 

Background

 

Organize Now is a progressive, community-based organization engaged in and committed to building power to effect change in times of injustice,  maintain and protect our existing rights in the state of Florida whenever and wherever injustices are being committed or civil rights are being infringed upon.

 

The Florida Institute for Reform and Empowerment (F.I.R.E.) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that both trains and develops leaders and organizes families in low-to moderate-income communities in Florida. Our vision is for these communities to become critically engaged in the political system in order to create a more just and equitable society.

 

Opportunity


Organize Now and FIRE seek a highly motivated, talented, and dynamic individual to serve as the Chief of Staff.  Along with the Executive Director, the Chief of Staff is responsible for overall organization management, including leadership, strategic planning, program management, operations and services. S/he will ensure the achievement of short and long term goals for the organization, both programmatically and financially. The Chief of Staff reports to the Executive Director.


Specific Responsibilities

 

Staff and Project Management

        Oversee and manage all staff of Organize NOW (ON) and its sister organization, the Florida Institute for Reform and Empowerment (FIRE).

        Maintain effective lines of communication, keeping the executive director fully informed of all critical issues.

        Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure all financial and human resources policies are implemented throughout the organization.

        In conjunction with the executive director and staff, create and evaluate annual strategic plan for the organization.

        Ensure highly productive and efficient day-to-day functioning and management of the operational initiatives and priorities of the organization.

        Provide strategic advice and guidance to improve daily management of organization.

        Participate in important issue campaign work alongside ON and FIRE staff.

 

Development and Communications

        Work closely with the Director of Development and Executive Director to ensure fundraising and development goals are being met.

        Provide strategic advice and guidance on development of major funding proposals and tracking metrics.

        Assist with messaging and communications for press, as needed.

 

Operations

        Work closely with CFO and ED on budgeting, financial planning, cash flow and monitoring budget to ensure optimal allocation of staff and financial resources.

        Collaborate with CFO to perform necessary HR tasks and duties, as needed.

        Responsible for effective supervision and support of all staff.

 

Key Qualifications

A successful candidate must believe in the core values of Organize Now and FIRE and be driven by its mission.

        Extensive experience with social justice advocacy and community organizing.

        7+ years of nonprofit management and leadership experience, with a proven track record of successfully managing multiple priorities in a rapidly changing work environment.

        Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

        Able to inspire and encourage others easily; strong interpersonal skills.

        Thrives at conceptualizing and growing internal systems.

        Collaborative, flexible, and proactive management style.

        Strong strategic and financial analysis skills.
