End Rape on Campus (EROC) is growing, and we are seeking a highly motivated leader with excellent management experience in our Washington, DC office to join our leadership and support our team.


The Staff Director reports directly to the Executive Director, and will oversee all day-to-day staff management so that the Executive Director can focus on high-level strategy and organizational development. The Staff Director will be the direct supervisor to all Director level staff, and will guide and oversee Director level staff management of staff at all other levels. The Staff Director will be responsible for keeping the office and team moving forward on a day-to-day basis, and have significant responsibility for ensuring project management and timelines are met across all organizational verticals.


An ideal candidate for this position is a strong and self-aware manager and leader, with demonstrated excellence in helping their teams grow and thrive. We seek a leader for this role who is tactically minded and superb at organized project management, is an excellent written and interpersonal communicator, and is able to balance multiple portfolios at once with a strong sense of prioritization. The ideal Staff Director is passionate about building diverse, inclusive, and thoughtful work environments, sustaining and strengthening team-based leadership and relational culture, and is someone who thrives in a team-oriented environment. Candidates absolutely must have the ability to build deep trust with team members and demonstrate extremely high emotional intelligence to work with employees across all levels of the organization.


EROC is currently in a high-growth phase. The Staff Director will take on significant responsibility in EROC’s organizational growth and professionalization. An ideal candidate is comfortable in high-growth environments and is excited about trying new ideas and implementing new systems. An ability to create and sustain structure and order is paramount.


Candidates must have a strong commitment to EROC’s values and mission, including a strong commitment to sexual violence prevention, anti-racism, social justice, and civil rights.


The Staff Director is a full-time, senior leadership position. The Staff Director will need to work and be available outside of our 9:30-6 office hours when required. Candidates should be comfortable working in a startup-like, high-growth and fast-paced environment, in both hours and in building and improving internal structures and systems.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Staff Management

  • Directly manages all full-time Director-Level Staff and provides them with the support Directors need to manage their departments and teams
  • Oversees organization-wide project management; supports staff members in directing and establishing deadlines for programs, and facilitates a process that holds staff accountable to meet said deadlines and outcomes
  • Maintains weekly check ins with direct reports to ensure progress on programs
  • Is responsible for supporting the organization’s regularly-scheduled team-wide meeting structure, and is the Operations Team lead on processes for internal planning for these meetings (all-hands meetings, retreats, etc.)

Human Resources

  • This position is one of three staff members that make up the organization’s HR Team, along with the Executive Director and Operations Manager. Specifically, the Staff Director will support managers in facilitating performance reviews and recommendations, support managers in enforcing EROC’s HR policies, and lead the Operations Team and staff in facilitating the hiring and search process for new employees

Organizational Sustainability

  • Will report directly to the Executive Director on their, as well as other departments’ behalf, and occasionally write reports for the Executive Director, Board of Directors and Operations Team as appropriate
  • Serves as an advisor to the Executive Director, as part of the senior leadership team
  • If necessary, fills in for the Executive Director when absent or unavailable and a single senior organizational point person is needed
  • “Owns” the organizational calendar and is responsible for keeping a pulse what is happening across all verticals of the organization at a given time
  • Contributes to the strategic planning process, facilitation, and implementation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently based in, or willing to relocate to, Washington DC
  • At least four to seven years of experience as a manager, with demonstrated experience in coaching others to achieve their goals
  • Experience in wide-ranging and cross-functional areas of previous work
  • Experience in project management, including using a variety of different project management systems and working with individuals to identify systems and support that work for them at individual and team levels
  • Systems and process-thinker; loves creating order out of chaos
  • Direct style of communication
  • Self-initiative and resourceful, but comfortable asking for help when needed
  • Able to build and sustain trusting relationships in their position via accountability without micromanaging
  • Excellent facilitation skills, is able to help others work through conflict and envision and understand both the 10,000 foot view of, as well as their own role in, organizational processes
  • Able to communicate and work well with different personality types and working styles
  • Ability to work, and help information, flow up, down and across an organization
  • Strategic thinker who is has a primarily analytical approach to solving problems, but also brings an empathetic, and emotionally intelligent lens to said problem-solving and working with others
  • Demonstrated ability to help others to achieve outcomes and goals in previous positions
  • Thrives on helping others be their best selves at work and anticipating their needs before they are spoken
  • Comfortable taking on significant leadership internally while being “behind-the-scenes” externally
  • Extremely discrete and comfortable working with confidential information

At least four to seven years of management experience is recommended. Candidates with less than three years of managerial experience will not be considered. A bachelor’s degree is highly recommended, and an advanced degree is preferred, or experience equivalent to the recommended educational experience.


Candidates with an understanding of vicarious trauma and demonstrated experience in building sustainable workplaces that actively work to prevent burnout are especially encouraged to apply.  Familiarity with advocacy on issues of gender equity and/or civil rights organizing experience are not required but are strongly preferred. Travel is occasionally required for this position, but the Staff Director will primarily be responsible for keeping the Washington, DC office running while other staff are traveling.

The starting salary for this position is $85,000, and is negotiable commensurate with experience.
