A Better Oregon Press Secretary

A Better Oregon, Our Oregon’s campaign to fund schools and services by making corporations pay their fair share in taxes, is seeking qualified applicants for a Press Secretary position.

The Press Secretary will be based in Portland with some travel outside of Portland. The primary goal for the position is to develop and implement an earned media strategy for A Better Oregon.

The campaign, led by parents, teachers, small businesses and community groups across the state, is making sure we can fund schools and community services by increasing the minimum tax that large corporations pay. Oregon has the lowest corporate taxes in the United States. These low corporate taxes have meant that Oregon doesn’t have the resources needed to adequately invest in our schools, help our seniors, and make sure that all Oregonians have basic health care. We’re running A Better Oregon to finally address these decades-long budget shortfalls and invest in the schools and services our communities deserve. You can learn more about the campaign and our coalition at www.abetteroregon.org.

Applicants should expect to work long hours and have access to reliable transportation. Specific responsibilities of the Press Secretary include but are not limited to:

-        Designing an earned media strategy for the A Better Oregon campaign

-        Preparing coalition spokespeople to speak to the media

-        Developing stories for media coverage

-        Recruiting media to cover A Better Oregon campaign events

-        Responding to press inquiries

-        Writing media documents and participating in the overall communications program

-        Building and expanding relationships with key allies

-        Representing the campaign at community events

-        And more…

Successful applicants will demonstrate the following qualifications:

-    Campaign communications experience

-    Strong time-management skills and work ethic

-    Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

-    Ability to adapt quickly and accomplish goals as set forth by the campaign

Salary/Benefits: Monthly salary ranges from $3,500 to $6,500 per month and exact salary is dependent on experience.
