ABOUT MILLENNIAL ACTION PROJECT
The Millennial Action Project (MAP) has an audacious mission: make political cooperation a norm through Millennial leadership. As polarization and gridlock paralyzes America’s political system, our generation must create a new politics and govern our nation into the future. MAP is a national, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit start-up dedicated to activating Millennial policymakers and leaders to create post-partisan political cooperation. MAP and its work have been featured in: Wall Street Journal, New York Times, NBC’s Meet The Press, CNN, MSNBC’s Morning Joe and ABC News, USA Today, POLITICO, National Journal, The Hill, Roll Call, BuzzFeed, C-SPAN, and more.   

In the wake of the 2013 government shut down, MAP organized the nation’s first and only bipartisan caucus for young members of Congress, the Congressional Future Caucus, forming a unique entrepreneurial governing environment for the next generation of leaders. MAP has scaled this model into the states—currently in 13 state legislatures—to create pragmatic common ground on future-oriented issues. This work has led to bipartisan achievements on issues such as entrepreneurship, technology, 21st century skills training, veterans' employment, immigration, volunteerism, and more—including the introduction of the first bipartisan legislation on social impact bonds. The national Advisory Board includes Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr., Governor Jennifer Granholm, U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe, and former U.S. Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra. ABOUT THE POSITION

This is a new position to build out and lead our State Caucus program nationally.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the effort to build out more robust engagement with our existing state caucus co-chairs and members in 13 states; manage all day-to-day interactions with them
• Develop and execute growth strategy to expand state caucuses throughout the country
• Work with state caucus co-chairs and their staffs to outline and execute on legislative priorities
• Work with our publicist to raise the profile of our state caucus co-chairs and their legislative activities (e.g., assisting our publicist with pitching stories, coordinating the drafting of joint op-eds with the MAP President, etc.)
• Lead planning on all joint programming with partner organizations in the state legislative space (e.g., current partners include the National Conference of State Legislatures)
• Lead engagement of our state caucus co-chairs and members in all other MAP activities (e.g., annual Constitution Day event at National Archives, policy roundtables, etc.)
• Represent MAP and/or the MAP President at events relating to our state caucus program and/or in the state legislative space

 

• Take on other tasks related to the State Caucus program or otherwise to support MAP leadership as needed

 

Qualifications:

• Three to five years of work experience in the state legislative space, in communications, policy, operations or a related area
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Demonstrated keen political acumen and relationship-building skills in a state legislative context
• Strong sense of state legislative processes, as well as current issues and events related to our work
• Creative, entrepreneurial, and self-motivated orientation
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in representing MAP in high-level meetings and public appearances
• Sincere commitment to MAP’s mission of working across partisan lines, and an intuitive understanding of MAP’s message
• Bachelor’s degree

Location
This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC.  Some travel may be required.
