The Employment Justice Center Seeks Pro Bono Coordinator
Location: Washington, DC
The Employment Justice Center seeks a Pro Bono Coordinator as a critical component of our economic and racial justice mission to “promote, secure and protect workplace justice” in metropolitan Washington DC.
The incumbent coordinates litigation services provided by the EJC through its volunteers and law firms. The Pro Bono Coordinator will conduct trainings, monitor pro bono cases, provide support to pro bono attorneys and work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Development staff to increase awareness of the EJC and its mission throughout the legal community. The Pro Bono Coordinator interacts with a variety of stakeholders including law firms, attorney volunteers, legal interns, clients, and the general public.
This position will report to the Legal Director.
General Duties
· Volunteer recruitment through outreach to law firms
· Build and maintain relationships with law firm pro bono programs and attorneys
· Develop cases for referral, with appropriate support
· Participate in client acceptance meetings
· Develop and implement new pro bono projects with the EJC legal and advocacy staff
· Develop and direct publicity for the pro bono program
· Conduct outreach to other legal providers, bar associations, and non-profits in the community
· Maintain volunteer and pro bono reporting requirements
· Plan and implement training events for volunteers and interns
· Participate in fundraising and development efforts
Qualifications:
· Experience in employment law
· Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
· Strong writing skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
· A demonstrated commitment to meeting a high bar and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles
· Understanding of non-profit structure and operations
· Comfortable with technology
· Passion for and commitment to the EJC mission and values
· Proficiency in Excel, Word, Quickbooks, and Salesforce (online database) preferred
· JD preferred
