NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia (NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia), a statewide, nonprofit pro-choice organization and affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America, seeks part-time Campus Organizers to lead our electoral and education initiatives on their respective college campus. Our mission is to develop and sustain a grassroots constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices. This job is perfect for an undergraduate student with campus, electoral, or issue-based organizing experience.

Campus Organizers are responsible for building a NARAL chapter on their campus through which they develop pro-choice programming and advocacy campaigns. They report directly to the NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Grassroots Leadership Coordinator with on-site support from the local Community Organizer. They are also responsible for assisting NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia’s electoral efforts and mobilizing student volunteers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and lead a recognized/chartered pro-choice student organization on your college campus OR establish a recognized NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia liaison position within an established pro-choice or feminist student organization.
  • Host 1 large and 2 small pro-choice events on campus per semester (film screenings, discussions/speak-outs, protests, petition collections, letter writing party, etc.).
  • Research and implement an advocacy campaign which seeks to improve access to reproductive healthcare services/information on campus.
  • Support recruitment for state-wide advocacy events including coordinated political campaigns, annual Women’s’ Equality Coalition Lobby Day, Legislative Rapid Response Team, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Leadership & Advocacy Summits, etc.
  • Communicate consistently with NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Community Organizer & Grassroots Leadership Coordinator through weekly phone check-ins and tracking forms.
  • Attend a Student Organizer training with NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia staff.
  • Write monthly blog posts for the NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia blog on current events or your work.
  • Other duties as needed.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • A commitment to reproductive rights and NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia’s mission.
  • Experience with community and/or political organizing.
  • An interest in student life and an understanding of the campus’ political climate.
  • Strong verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • An ability to build relationships with students, faculty, administration, and other progressive student organizations.
  • Willingness to work some nights and occasional weekends; statewide travel sometimes necessary.
  • Maturity, flexibility, humor, and discretion.

TIME COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION

  • 8 hours per week over the course of two semesters (spring-fall or fall-spring).
  • Occasional weekend work required.
  • Stipend or internship credit available.
