Political Director (full time, exempt)

The Deputy Political Director has a major
hand in strategy and execution of planning and execution of our 2020 political
and electoral program. The Deputy will work closely with the Political Director
and will act as the organization’s principal liaison to a high-level portfolio
of candidates, campaigns, and related partners, manage various projects at one
time, and balance a short- and long-term strategic vision for the
organization’s political work. Position requires ability and interest in
traveling up to 20% (and potentially more in the months and weeks leading up to
the election) as well as attending occasional weekend and evening events.
DUTIES + Responsibilities
- Manage a large piece of Giffords’ electoral strategy and
programs aimed at electing aligned candidates to office and elevating gun
safety as a voting issue.
- Oversee management of outside consultants and vendors
working to execute key aspects of the electoral strategy.
- Collaborate and coordinate with departments across the
organization in order to execute key political projects and priorities.
- Advance political priorities through building and
maintaining relationships with coalition members and leaders of allied
organizations.
- Oversee political polling and research, data and
analytics products as needed.
- Produce analysis and other materials for partners,
funders, media as requested.
- Identify and elevate legal and compliance questions and
meet all legal and compliance regulations and requirements related to electoral
program.
- Staff occasional evening events.
- Other duties as assigned.

skills + experience
- Five-seven years of experience developing and
implementing campaigns to elect candidates with an understanding of independent
expenditure work and earned media strategy.
- Prior experience with project management, including
overseeing major projects with outside vendors, colleagues and partners and
large-scale budgets.
- Demonstrated knowledge of polling and opposition
research.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with allied
organizations, build new relationships and create partnerships.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to be
flexible.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced
environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, sense of humor and ability
to work well on a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
