POSITION TITLE: Tech Intern — Democracy Platform Build

ORGANIZATION: GAIN Power

ABOUT GAIN POWER: GAIN Power is a professional community and marketplace for people working in Democratic politics, elections, and civic advocacy. Founded in 2004, we’ve spent 22 years connecting the democracy workforce — campaign staff, consultants, vendors, organizers, and nonprofit leaders — with the jobs, resources, training, and relationships they need to win.

Our community reaches over 100,000 people across our platforms, including 6,000+ vetted members, a 39,000-member Google Group, a growing Substack network, and thousands of organizations across the pro-democracy ecosystem. We run the Democracy Directory, a job board with salary transparency, virtual career fairs, RootsCamp, the Powerful IDEA Awards, and a growing suite of tools for the field. We’re based in Cambridge, MA and currently rebuilding our platform from the ground up.

POSITION SUMMARY: GAIN Power is seeking a Tech Intern to support the rebuild of its flagship platform — a modern React + Supabase web application serving the democracy professional community. Working directly with founder Amy Pritchard, the intern will help build and iterate on platform features using AI-assisted development tools, test functionality, manage our beta tester program, and contribute to product decisions. This is a hands-on role with immediate real-world impact. Your work ships to over 100,000 people.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Run and iterate on AI-assisted development prompts using Lovable and Claude

  • Test new features, identify bugs, and document issues clearly

  • Help wire up backend logic including Supabase database queries, Edge Functions, and Row Level Security policies

  • Manage the beta tester program — recruit, schedule, and run feedback sessions with democracy professionals, then synthesize findings back into the build

  • Contribute to feature specifications based on the platform Master Spec

  • Write weekly build and testing summaries for the founder

  • Maintain and update technical documentation as the platform evolves

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of React and JavaScript/TypeScript

  • Familiarity with REST APIs and database fundamentals

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Genuine interest in civic technology, democratic politics, or political infrastructure

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with Supabase, Firebase, or similar backend tools

  • Familiarity with Tailwind CSS

  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools (Lovable, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar)

  • Exposure to QA testing or software documentation

  • Previous experience shipping a real product, app, or side project

COMPENSATION AND DETAILS:

  • $25/hour

  • 10–15 hours per week, flexible schedule

  • Fully remote with occasional optional in-person meetups in Cambridge, MA

  • Spring/Summer 2026, with potential to continue

  • Start date: As soon as possible
