Overview: SEIU is looking for field researchers for our Child Care Workers program located in New York, NY. SEIU is looking for self-starting, intellectually curious people who are excited about developing expertise in new areas of corporate research.

Purpose: The Field Researcher is responsible for research in support of local and national campaigns to challenge America's largest corporations to take responsibility for how their business practices impact working families and their communities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Researcher performs a wide range of duties related to the research support for a variety of stages of organizing and/or contract campaigns. Duties may vary by campaign and may include but are not limited to the following:
A. Gather information from workers; employers; economic / financial data; and assess what is relevant to the particular campaign; record and report such information logically and analytically and integrate such information into campaign;
B. Access employer documents, evaluate information and cull for relevant points;
C. Recordkeeping/list maintenance/logistical information:
D. Research in support of collective bargaining.

Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or
university with Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in economics,
business statistics or labor relations or a related field with
demonstrated ability in quantitative or qualitative research, even as a
student.
Or a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Knowledge of research techniques and processes.
• Knowledge of quantitative techniques and analysis.
• Skill in the use of personal computers including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and, database programs and on-line research services.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Strong consideration given to proficient or fluent speakers of a language other than English (Spanish strongly preferred).
Working Conditions: The Field Researcher must be available for
regular travel over a large geographic area. The position often requires
temporary assignments away from home as well as long and irregular
hours.
