Environment California seeks a strategic and experienced organizer to serve as our Field Organizer, building the public and political support we need to advance clean energy and global warming solutions throughout California. When powerful industries and their political allies stand in the way of environmental progress, we need media attention, the support of broad-based coalitions, an informed public, and grassroots action to counter their power and influence, and win the day for our environment.
Our Field Organizer will organize news conferences, bring community leaders and other constituencies together, and organize community events, rallies and other grassroots actions to show support for key campaigns, including:
· Charge Ahead California: Transportation is the single largest source of global warming pollution in California, creating pollutants that harm our environment and our health. But California can get in the driver’s seat and lead the transition from dirty vehicles to clean electric cars, trucks and buses. The benefits of transitioning to cleaner vehicles are tremendous, but we’re up against the oil industry, which wants to keep us addicted to their dirty fuel. We’re working to mobilize the public in support of clean vehicles, pushing past the oil industry and charging ahead to a cleaner, healthier future for all Californians.
· LA Clean Energy: California’s largest city has tremendous untapped potential to lead the state in the use of solar energy, electric vehicles and energy efficiency. Los Angeles can and must do more to reduce air pollution, fight climate change and bring clean energy solutions to all corners of the city. We’re working to mobilize Angelenos in support of slashing greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2050, ramping up rooftop solar power to 20% of the city’s energy use by 2020, and bringing more electric vehicles and charging stations to the city. In transforming how Los Angeles gets and uses its energy, we can build a national model and create a roadmap for how to rapidly transition a utility from dirty to clean energy.
· Save the California Bag Ban: The Field Organizer will also spearhead online organizing and fundraising for our campaign to uphold California’s first-in-the-nation statewide ban on single-use plastic bags.
Environment California is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization. Defending our environment requires independent research, tough-minded advocacy and spirited grassroots action. The Field Organizer will be coordinating this advocacy effort in the field.
What The Field Organizer Does:
The Field Organizer will implement a variety of grassroots strategies and campaigns to show support for our Clean Energy/Global Warming program and other initiatives. Specifically, the Field Organizer will:
· Work with the Clean Energy Advocate to develop plans to win on our campaigns; assess opportunities for building political support for our campaigns through coalition-building, grassroots organizing, media coverage, endorsements and message development.
· Work with coalition partners to plan joint strategies on the Charge Ahead California, LA Clean Energy and Save the California Bag Ban campaigns.
· Develop campaign materials, issue updates, action alerts, and media materials needed to implement campaigns.
· Organize “Electric Vehicle Ride & Drive” events and other community events.
· Plan media and visibility events to spread the word about our campaigns.
· Create and implement an online strategy for fundraising and issue organizing to build support and uphold California’s statewide plastic bag ban.
