metropolitan area to direct our Early Learning/Childcare Campaign.

around the country. We are a growing online and on-the-ground
multicultural organization mobilizing the grassroots to advocate for
families on a variety of important. We help people voice their support
for legislation and culture change that support mothers and families in
this country.
Our
core team of paid staff and volunteers work collaboratively to develop
our strategies and campaigns. As a virtual organization, we use
conference calls, IM, and email extensively to communicate, to create,
and to care for each other. Our team enjoys a results-oriented work
environment where the challenges and joys of balancing work, family, and
personal time are understood.
Summary:
The
Campaign Director will work primarily on increasing quality, access,
and affordability of early learning/childcare opportunities for all
children, with a focus on ensuring that social emotional development and
trauma informed care are key aspects of all early education. S/he will
work on multiple projects, as part of a collaborative team, to mobilize
and organize our members, volunteers, and aligned organizations. Through
the planning and execution of state and federal engagement and
education campaigns, the Campaign Director will advance our core issues
in specific focus areas. The Campaign Director also will work to grow
our membership, volunteer base, and financial support.
This
is a full-time position that is eligible for benefits. The Campaign
Director will report to a Senior Campaign Director. Our preference is
for an individual who is located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan
area.
Responsibilities:
1. Work with the Senior Campaign Director (SCD) to design and implement a specific campaign in the focus area.
- Work
with SCD to craft campaign strategy and an implementation plan that
effectively leverage online and offline tactics, both traditional and
innovative.
- Implement campaign or portions of campaign as directed by SCD.
- Assist
the SCD in the management and organization of online and offline
events, leveraging MomsRising volunteers for execution of events.
- Work with Senior Campaign Director to ensure responsible use of MomsRising financial, staff, and volunteer resources.
- Conduct complex project management and oversight.
2. Effectively communicate the messaging of the campaign to move the focus issue forward.
- Communicate
with policy partners, elected leaders, and the media to publicize
campaign, build understanding and move the focus issue forward.
- Draft
compelling messaging, distributed through mass email alerts, social
media, blogs, and other channels that result in members taking action or
donating.
- May represent the organization on occasion with the media or at events.
3. Advance the focus issue and build and support membership.
- Identify and build on opportunities to grow membership.
- Track and identify opportunities to engage in the focus issue.
- Identify opportunities for financial partnerships and work with SCD to follow up as appropriate.
- Track and report on member feedback and member services, including facilitating response to member concerns and questions.
- Facilitate leadership development opportunities with members as appropriate.
4.
Support the development of effective relationships with partners,
funders and others to further the campaign issue and the work of
MomsRising.
- Attend coalition and program partner meetings and conference calls as a representative of MomsRising.
- Communicate with foundations and donors and the media including appropriate appreciation and updates.
- In collaboration with others, ensure timely reporting of grant-funded activities.
5. Take other assignments as needed to further the mission of MomsRising.
Qualifications:
- 5 or more years of experience in related work either implementing campaigns and/or doing advocacy.
- Excellent writing skills including experience in crafting smart campaign strategies and mobilizing diverse communities online.
- Able to work independently, but also be a good team player.
- Experience in early learning.
- Experience working with coalitions and managing political or advocacy campaigns.
- BA/BS required. MA/MS preferred. Or equivalent experience.
- Experience and/or interest in organizing. Eager to empower and engage others in the democratic process.
- Interest in and passion for the designated campaign issue.
- Able
to turn on a dime so when there's a new idea on Monday, you can test it
and put it in front of over a million people and multiple organizations
by Tuesday. This is a fast-paced job.
- Able
to track a lot of moving parts and manage complex projects. Able to
keep the big picture in mind, while also paying close attention to many
details.
- Experience in planning and executing a variety of events and have strong project management skills.
- Flexible and willing to do what is needed to make the project work.
- Comfortable with a virtual office. Able to communicate effectively via IM, conference calls, and email.
- At
ease with technology and able to use technology effectively for
organizing, writing, and online communication. Email proficiency is
critical.
- Familiar
with HTML and comfortable with Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
Experience with constituent relationship management tools and blogging
are a bonus.
- Ability and willing to travel occasionally.
- The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
This is a virtual job with no physical office. This individual will
work in his/her own home and communicate with coworkers through
technology. This position’s full-time hours are flexible with some
evening and weekend hours required. An individual located in the
Washington, D.C. metropolitan area is preferred.
Must
be able to work at a desk for blocks of time. Must be able to
communicate verbally. While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to use hands to move objects/operate
keyboards, reach with hands and arms, speak and hear. Reasonable
