Tom Malinowski for Congress is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to fill the role of Communications Fellow. The Communications fellow will serve directly under the Communications Director and will play a key role in one of the most-watched Congressional races of the midterm elections. 


Tom Malinowski is the Democrat running for the NJ7 district, which encompasses central Jersey. The district extends from Union Township to the western border of the state, and contains urban, suburban, and rural environments. Tom fled communist Poland at the age of 6, and settled in New Jersey. In his career in public service and human rights advocacy, Tom served as Senior Director for the National Security Council, Washington Director of Human Rights Watch, and most recently as Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor.


Responsibilities

  • Preparing morning press clips for campaign staff
  • Policy research and writing for candidate positions, briefings, and questionnaires
  • Creating press lists for event coverage
  • Drafting press releases and candidate statements
  • Summarizing longer campaign positions for volunteer understanding
  • Monitoring news sites and social media for stories and trends
  • Staffing the candidate at events
  • Directing and responding to messages from the campaign email

Requirements: Candidates should be committed to Democratic ideals and issues, and possess strong personal, verbal, and written communications skills, as well as the flexibility and temperament to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong researching abilities
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Background in policy, communications, political science, or journalism preferred
  • Ability to work on a tight deadline
  • Ability to prioritize requests from multiple individuals
  • Independence and problem solving skills, proactive; adaptability and flexibility are absolutely essential. 
  • Strong time-management skills and work ethic
  • Reliable access to transportation

Salary:

  • $500/month stipend.

Hours:

  • Fellows should be able to commit to fully working for four days a week (9-5) as well as staffing the candidate at events on work days and potentially over the weekend.
