Freedman Consulting, LLC:  Project Director


Freedman Consulting, LLC, is hiring a Project Director to lead client projects, directing discrete efforts that include strategic advising and planning, cross-cutting research, policy and message development, and coalition management. The Project Director will take on a broad portfolio of policy areas, working at the intersection of policy, strategy, communications, and politics to help philanthropic leaders have greater social impact.


Freedman Consulting, LLC, located in Washington, DC, offers strategic consulting services to foundations, nonprofit organizations, corporate philanthropy, and philanthropic coalitions. Examples of our work include: strategic planning and issue landscaping for major foundations, campaign advising and coordination for public interest coalitions, and policy development in presidential and other high-profile political campaigns.


The position entails high-level client-facing, managerial, and deliverable responsibilities, including:

  • ·         Developing, leading on, and managing project strategies and work plans;
  • ·         Managing and supervising staff and directing tasks on individual projects;
  • ·         Providing strategic guidance of varying substance to clients on a wide variety of issues;
  • ·         Directing client interactions, including facilitating meetings, calls, presentations, and conferences;
  • ·         Conceptualizing, drafting, and editing a variety of client-facing material, including large-scale reports, memos, and briefs;
  • ·         Contributing to business planning and new business development, including drafting proposals to potential clients and involvement with internal firm learning and new ventures;
  • ·         Tracking projects to ensure compliance with scopes of work and contributing to internal financial management needs; and
  • ·         Assisting in the professional development of firm staff.

At least 9 years of previous policy, legislative, consulting, communications, and/or research experience is preferred. A relevant master’s degree is desirable, but not required. Applicants must possess excellent writing and analytical skills, problem-solving acumen, demonstrated management capabilities, exceptional presentation skills, and the ability to think through complex policy issues critically and strategically.
