Lee Carter’s progressive campaign for the Virginia House of Delegates 50th District is looking for a Field Director to manage a large canvassing and voter targeting operation.
About the race and candidate
Lee Carter is a 5-year Marine Corps veteran, community organizer for fair housing and worker’s rights, and IT professional. His platform includes Medicaid expansion, significant campaign finance reform, the expansion of public transit options, worker’s protections, and other policies that will help expand the middle class and pull people from poverty.
The 50th District is currently represented by the majority whip of the Republican controlled House of Delegates. He is well-funded and an entrenched incumbent, but is trying to hold on to a district that has swung left more and more in the past 5 years, and voted for Hillary Clinton by a 12-point margin. This race is a chance to take back a crucial seat for the Democrats, and push back against the Republican agenda by unseating a member of their leadership.
Furthermore, we are one of the only districts without a Democratic Primary! Meaning Lee is the Democratic nominee for the 50th. He is one of the few candidates nation-wide who has been endorsed by “Our Revolution”, has been chosen as part of the Sister District program, and has earned an endorsement from The Political Revolution PAC.
About the Job
Carter for Virginia is looking for a Field Director to help create a field plan and facilitate its execution. Working closely with the candidate and other senior staff, he will be responsible for voter targeting, recruiting and organizing volunteers and precinct captains, coordinating phone banks, and overall GOTV efforts. Since this campaign has a relatively small staff, the position may also involve staffing the candidate at events, helping facilitate call time, and other campaign related duties. Prior field experience is required and Virginia experience is a plus. The position is salaried with supporter housing, is available starting immediately, and should be comfortable working long hours including nights and weekends.
