Vice President of Outreach
The Voter Participation Center (VPC) and Women’s Voices. Women Vote Action Fund (WVWVAF) is committed to expanding civic participation to reflect an evolving and increasingly diverse electorate. To accomplish this goal, VPC and WVWVAF are seeking a dynamic, motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the Vice President of Outreach.
The Vice President of Outreach will be at the center of the most successful and effective mail-based voter registration and turnout program in the nation. This position has been established to promote VPC/WVWVAF programs and build partnerships that will increase the participation of unmarried women, people of color, young voters and white working class women in 2018 and beyond. In addition, the Vice President of Outreach is expected to work with the progressive community to counter efforts to limit voting rights and access to registration.
The VPC is a metrics-driven, results-oriented 501(c)(3) organization that conducts research and education programs to help increase the civic participation rates of underrepresented voters. Since its inception, VPC has conducted cutting edge research and devised effective registration and mobilization strategies that target, inform, register, and turn out millions of Americans to vote.
WVWVAF is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to increasing the voting participation and issue advocacy of unmarried women and other underrepresented groups, and ensuring the political narrative addresses their needs and concerns. WVWVAF provides persuasive information to voters about ballot measures, candidates, and their positions on issues of importance.
The VPC and WVWVAF seek a talented and experienced individual to join our team as the Vice President of Outreach in our Washington, DC office. He or she will be a part of the strategic team and will design an outreach and partnering strategy that reflects current opportunities in states, educates key players about the importance of marital status and the importance of registering and turning out unmarried women, people of color, and Millennials. This individual will understand the opportunities WVWVAF provides. The Vice President of Outreach will report to the Executive Director, and work with the entire team, particularly the Program Director and Development Director, to further VPC and WVWVAF’s reach in states and with organizational partners nationally.
Candidate Profile
This is an incredible opportunity for a talented leader to play a pivotal role in shaping VPC/WVWV future program and political outreach strategies. We seek candidates with expertise in political campaigns, advocacy campaigns and/or nonprofits with a focus on electoral strategies and programs.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
§ Design the overall strategy of the political outreach and partnering efforts and activities of VPC/WVWVAF nationally and in states.
§ Lead efforts to build and maintain relationships with current stakeholders and partners.
§ Aggressively seek new partnership opportunities and develop strategies to collaborate.
§ Represent VPC/WVWVAF at key tables, coalitions and meetings with allies and national partners.
§ Work with the Program Team to capture the importance of VPC/WVWVAF programs and convey that in discussions with outside organizations.
§ Work with the Communications Team to project externally VPC/WVWVAF agenda and message.
§ Travel to meet and develop relationships with state-based stakeholders to build partnerships and engage them in VPC/WVWVAF programs.
§ Direct and manage the efforts of the Outreach team of consultants and stakeholders.
§ Keep up to date on electoral activities and issues at the federal, state, and local level, in order to keep VPC/WVWVAF informed on the races and issues that most interest voters.
Qualifications:
§ At least 5 years of experience working on political campaigns, advocacy campaigns and/or at nonprofits with a focus on electoral strategies and programs.
§ Strong knowledge of and experience with national, state and local organizational players engaged in electoral strategies and programs.
§ Proven ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with diverse groups and individuals.
§ Excellent organizational skills and time management.
§ Experience working across departments or teams within an organization.
§ Provides clear direction, delegates effectively and is results-focused.
§ Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience in public presentations.
§ Willingness and ability to travel frequently.
§ Experience analyzing political data (polling, census, etc.).
§ An understanding of mail, phone and online strategies.
§ Proficiency and comfort with MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Google Docs, and Google Drive.
§ Familiarity with rules governing non-profit, non-partisan organizations.
§ Familiarity with political data, census data, polling, latest technologies, and best practices in the field
