Michigan Liberation is seeking an experienced
Operations & HR
Manager to expand our capacity and support the many details of a growing
organization. As an ideal candidate, you’ll have experience managing
multiple projects, building hiring & onboarding processes,
administrative responsibilities, and human resources. Additionally,
you’ll display a proven ability to develop and maintain an environment
of trust and inclusion within our team.
About Michigan LiberationWe
are Michigan Liberation: a statewide network of people and
organizations organizing to end the criminalization of Black families
and communities of color in Michigan. We envision a state without mass
incarceration or mass policing. We envision a state with the best public
education in the nation, single payer healthcare and thriving Black and
Brown communities. Michigan Liberation conducts grassroots organizing,
leadership development, lobbying and supports candidates that share our
vision for Michigan.
Michigan Liberation promotes changes in all
areas of the criminal legal system, including courts, prosecutors,
policing, prisons, juvenile systems, re-entry and diversion programs,
and parole.
Responsibilities of this Role:- Manage our hiring & onboarding processes
- Run and manage our payroll
- Maintain
daily administrative duties such as supply ordering, organization of
mail, and simple needs for bookkeeping such as receipt collection from
staff.
- Own the continued development of a safe & inclusive staff
environment through communicating about organizational policies, and
proposing training and resources that will support our team to excel.
- Oversee invoicing with vendors and partners
- Oversee materials and inventory management
- Working with our Canvass Team on administrative processes.
Skills and Qualifications:- Strong communication skills
- Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities
- Proficiency in Google Docs
- Past experience with fair hiring processes
- Curious and open to feedback
- Excellent with details and examples of managing multiple projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience
running payroll for an organization with over 15 staff members (we use
Paylocity, and will train the new hire if they are unfamiliar with this
platform)
- 2+ years experience in an operations, HR or administrative position
- Trained in conflict resolution & experience with trauma-informed, healing centered practices
Location:
This
job will be based remotely through December 31st. Michigan Liberation
is practicing caution, in regards to in-person engagement, however,
should we resume in-person operations, this position will be based in
Detroit. With things changing often, we welcome questions about this.

Compensation
commensurate to $45,000 a year annual salary. This will be a full-time
W-2 position through December 31st with a possibility of extension. It
will include $200/month to cover cell, gas, computer, and family care
expenses. Paid time off will be prorated to start date, based on 18 days
per year. Health care will be offered after 30 days of full-time
employment.
