Grassroots Organizer
Help improve human health, eliminate toxic chemical use, and build a
sustainable economy! We are looking for a strong grassroots organizer
with experience in advocacy campaigns. As our Grassroots Organizer you
will be responsible for building a network of activists and leaders
for the organization. The Grassroots Organizer is responsible for
recruiting new supporters, engaging activists, and developing
volunteer leaders who identify with and support the Environmental
Health Strategy Center. The Grassroots Organizer also leads execution
of grassroots outreach plans to further the programmatic goals of the
organization and our coalition, the Alliance for a Clean and Healthy
Maine.
Required qualifications: At least two years experience in grassroots
organizing and volunteer mobilization. Outstanding people skills.
Proven capacity to work effectively in teams of diverse people and
organizations. Demonstrated writing and editing skills. Strong
organizational, communications, computer, problem-solving and
analytical skills. Highly self motivated and directed. Proven
commitment to progressive values and social change. Experience with
issue advocacy campaigns and working with a contact database strongly
preferred. This full-time position offers a competitive salary,
excellent benefits and will be based in our Portland, Maine office.
Irregular hours, including some evening and weekend work, and travel
statewide will be required.

Communications Coordinator

sustainable economy! We are looking for a strong writer and
communicator with experience in advocacy campaigns. As Communications
Coordinator you will be responsible producing written content for
organizational communications and materials on a daily basis, and for
managing media relations including pitching stories and building
relationships with reporters. The Communications Coordinator will
also manage our organizational presence on the web and through social
media networks.
Required qualifications: At least two years experience in persuasive
communications. Proven success in media relations, including framing
and pitching media stories. Experienced with managing web content and
social media campaigns. Must be an exceptional writer – high quality,
prolific, meets deadlines. Ability to be a fearless advocate – on the
phone, in person and online. Demonstrated messaging and editing
skills. Excellent attention to details and follow through needed. This
half-time position offers a competitive salary, excellent benefits and
will be based in our Portland, Maine office. Our ideal candidate will
be available to work Monday through Friday mornings.

advocating chemical policy reforms to replace dangerous chemicals in

alternatives, such as bio-based plastic made from Maine potato waste
and wood chips.
